  • Maliwal ‘assault’: Delhi Police team reaches MP’s residence to seek details of incident

    A Delhi Police team reached AAP MP Swati Maliwal’s house on Thursday in connection with the alleged assault on her at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, officials said. Led by an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officer, the team has gone to the Rajya MP’s residence to seek details of the incident, they said.

    On Monday morning, Maliwal went to the Civil Lines police station here and alleged that a member of Kejriwal’s personal staff “assaulted” her at the chief minister’s official residence, police officials said. Police have not yet received a formal complaint.

    Earlier on Thursday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar over Maliwal’s allegations. His hearing is scheduled for Friday at 11 am. On Tuesday, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh had said that the incident with Maliwal was “highly condemnable”.

  • Three weeks after woman cop assaulted on train in U.P, Task Force guns down main accused

    LUCKNOW:  Three weeks after the 40-year-old woman constable was brutally assaulted by unidentified miscreants on the Saryu Express train, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and Ayodhya Police, in a joint operation, gunned down the prime accused and arrested two of his associates following an encounter in Ayodhya on Friday. 

    Three cops, including the station officer of Purakalandar police station Ratan Sharma, were also injured in the exchange of fire. While the deceased was identified as Anis Khan, the two accused arrested included Azad and Vishambhar Dayal Dubey. The duo suffered bullet injuries and are under treatment at a hospital in Ayodhya. The encounter between the police force and the accused took place at Chhitarva Para Kail Road under the Purakalander police station area of Ayodhya.

    Meanwhile, special director general (law and order) Prashant Kumar announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for the Ayodhya police team for finding the accused. A woman constable was found lying under a berth in a pool of blood with deep cuts on her face and other parts of the body and dishevelled clothes in the general compartment onboard Saryu Express running between Mankapur and Prayagraj on August 30. 

    The Railway Police personnel rushed her to Shri Ram Hospital in Ayodhya from where she was referred to Lucknow Trauma Centre. However, after the medical examination, sexual assault of the police personnel was ruled out.

    According to Ayodhya Superintendent of Police Raj Karan Nayyar, the police got a tip-off, after which a photograph was shown to the victim. The police started working out the case and identified the accused on the basis of the statement given by the injured constable who is convalescing at Lucknow Trauma Centre. 

    Ayodhya tightens security 

    Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force took over security of the ‘red zone’ of the Ram Janmabhoomi replacing the Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel in Ayodhya. Eight companies of the UPSSF were deployed in the ‘red zone’ of the campus on Thursday.

  • Moradabad trader assaulted, forced to chant religious slogans onboard Padmawat Express

    LUCKNOW: Following a brawl between two groups over a seat onboard Delhi-Pratapgarh Padmawat Express, a brass trader of Moradabad was assaulted by the other group which forced him to chant religious slogans and pushed him out of the train when it stopped at the outer near Moradabad Railway station. The victim lodged a complaint at GRP police station against unidentified persons on Friday evening.

    As per the sources, Asim Hussain, a resident of Peerzada locality under Katghar police station area of Moradabad, submitted a complaint saying that he boarded the general compartment of Padmawat Express train in Delhi to come to Moradabad on Thursday night.

    As the train left the Hapur railway station, a group of people asked him to vacate the seat which he refused. Consequently, unidentified persons got engaged in a verbal duel with him, assaulted him and tore his clothes. As per the complaint, the group of persons even snatched the victim’s beard and forced him to chant religious slogans.

    Hussain further added that as the train reached Moradabad and stopped at the outer, the group of miscreants pushed him out of it forcibly. The victim claimed that he had to call up his relatives to bring some clothes for him and then he went home.

    Hussain along with his relatives approached the GRP police station of Friday evening to lodge a complaint. According to CO GRP Devi Dayal, the victim was sent to the district jail for getting a medical checkup done. “On the basis of the complaint given by the victim, a case of assault, verbal dual, intimidation, and sloganeering has been lodged against unidentified persons.

    However, during the incident, some fellow passengers shot the brawl and made the video viral on social media tagging GRP. Taking cognizance of the video clip, two persons were rounded up in Bareilly. They identified themselves as Satish Kumar of Rae Bareli and Suraj of Pratapgarh.

    “As we had not received any complaint from the victim by then, a challan was issued against both the accused for breach of peace,” said the CO GRP. However, he claimed that efforts were on to nab the miscreants.

    BHOPAL: A 19-year-old girl was assaulted mercilessly by a 24-year-old man allegedly over refusal to marry him in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. The act was filmed by another man. Both the accused, have been arrested.

    The 1.32-minute video, which went viral, shows the man identified as Pankaj Tripathi, a driver, walking with the girl hand in hand. Suddenly, Tripathi starts verbally abusing the girl before assaulting her. According to Rewa district additional SP (ASP) Anil Sonkar, both the accused and the girl were close friends for a year, but the girl’s family refused to marry her with the accused.

    “Perhaps enraged by the refusal by the girl’s family to marry her to him, the accused assaulted her brutally. He along with his aide has been booked under IPC Sections 363, 366, 323, 294, besides provisions of IT Act,” the ASP said.

  • Delhi accounts for the most crimes against foreigners for the third year in succession

    According to the data released by the National Crime Record Bureau, Delhi is the most unsafe place for foreigners along with Karnataka. The Delhi Police had reported 27 crimes against foreigners in the year 2021, which is equal to the numbers of Karnataka. 

    According to data from the NCRB, Delhi accounted for the most crimes against foreigners for the third year in succession.

    In 2021, Delhi reported 27 cases of crime against foreigners, a drop from the 62 cases reported in 2020 and the 123 in 2019.  The reduction in the number of cases can be attributed to the lockdown when flights from abroad were restricted and banned for a while. 

    Despite having this big decline in crime against foreigners, the capital is still at the top among the union territories. The Chargesheet rate the crime against foreigners is 55.5% in Delhi, which is also the lowest among the Union territories. 

    The 69th edition of NCRB data (2019-21) mentioned that the crime against foreigners in Delhi was 127 in the year 2019, which was reduced to 62 in 2020. 

    A total of 150 crimes were registered for crime against foreigners (Tourists and Residents) as compared to 191 cases in 2020, showing a decrease of 21.5%. Most of the cases registered were under Theft (23) and Assault on Women with Intent to Outrage her Modesty (15). Out of 171 victims in 150 registered cases, 58.5% of the victims were from the Asian Continent (100) followed by 9.4% of victims from Europe (16).

    In terms of Crime committed by foreigners, Delhi has reported the most cases among the Union territories.  Delhi also recorded 322 cases of crimes committed by foreigners in 2021, a significant surge of more than 90 %compared to 2020 when the figure was 168, the data showed.

    The NCRB data revealed that West Bengal reported the highest number of crimes committed by foreigners in the year 2021, which is 1287. The Number of crimes by foreigners has increased more than double this year, which was 635 in 2020, shows the record. 

    A total of 2,585 cases were registered in 2021 against foreigners as compared to 1,937 cases in the year 2020, showing an increase of 33.5% Crime head-wise cases revealed that 65.3% of the cases registered were under the Foreigners Act & Registration of Foreigners Act (1,688 Cases), followed by 13.7% of Cases under NDPS Act (354 Cases)

  • Actor Ezra Miller arrested again in Hawaii on suspicion of second-degree assault

    LOS ANGELES: Actor Ezra Miller was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of second-degree assault, the Hawaii Island Police Department said.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller was apprehended around 1.30 am after an incident at a residence in Pahoa on the Big Island, police said. The alleged assault occurred at a get-together at a private residence.

    According to police, Miller “became irate after being asked to leave and reportedly threw a chair, striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut”.

    He was arrested shortly thereafter, being located during a traffic stop, the police said. The actor was released “pending further investigation”, they added. 

    This is the second time in less than a month that the 29-year-old actor was arrested. In late March, he was taken into custody on the charges of “disorderly conduct and harassment” following an incident in a karaoke bar in Hilo, a town in Hawaii.

    Miller, who was most recently seen in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”, is set to headline his first solo outing in and as “The Flash”, scheduled to be released in 2023.
