In a shocking incident, Gram Pradhan (village head) and BJP leader Balram Munda was murdered in the Maranghada police station area of Khunti. The assailants, yet unidentified, attacked him at his residence in Kadehtubid village on Saturday night. The attack, which occurred around 11:30 PM, also left his nephew, Achu Munda, seriously injured. According to initial reports, the attackers, numbering around 10-12 and armed with weapons, broke into Munda’s home during a rainstorm. Witnesses reported that the attackers were armed with firearms and repeatedly questioned Munda, saying, “You become the village head, you talk to the police…” They then shot Munda and brutally attacked him with sharp weapons, leading to his death. The assailants remained in the house for approximately 20 minutes, ransacking the premises, tearing open sacks of rice and damaging other belongings. Police arrived at the scene promptly, taking possession of the body and sending it to Khunti Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. SP Manish Toppo confirmed that some suspects have been detained and that raids are ongoing to apprehend the other criminals involved.
