  • Did INDIA Bloc Offer PM Position To Nitish Kumar? Congress Reacts |

The Congress party on Saturday responded to the claims of Janta Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi about Nitish Kumar being offered the Prime Minister’s position by the INDIA bloc. “We don’t have any such information,” stated Congress general secretary KC Venugopal in a press conference following the Congress Working Committee’s meeting in Delhi.

The JD(U) senior leaders pointed fingers at the coalition for mistreating Nitish Kumar; he alleged that those who previously rejected Nitish Kumar as the INDIA bloc’s national convenor are now proposing to make him Prime Minister. He further said that this is the ‘game of politics’ and the JDU will not run back to the INDI Alliance.

With 12 seats in Bihar, Kumar’s JD (U) has become a significant ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to reach the magic number of 272 seats in the Lok Sabha. JD (U) was crucial in the formation of INDIA bloc last year. However, it returned to the NDA in January after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s name was suggested as the potential prime ministerial candidate for the INDIA bloc.

On Friday, while supporting the NDA proposal to name Narendra Modi as the leader of the coalition, Kumar expressed his confidence by saying, “Next time when you come, those who have won here and there this time will lose. I am confident about it. They never worked for the nation. They never served the country. The country will progress under your (PM Modi) leadership.”

He added that all the pending work in Bihar will be completed. It is very good that all of us have come together, and we will all work together with you (PM Modi).

Mohan clarified that he was not part of the meeting and he had come to pay a unofficial courtesy visit to CM Nitish at his residence.

NDA Ally Nitish Kumar Slams INDIA Opposition Alliance

Days after the results of the Lok Sabha election, JDU chief Nitish Kumar attacked the INDIA opposition alliance on Friday, saying that it had never served the nation’s interests. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the nation will advance, Kumar said while addressing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary meeting in Delhi.

“Agli baar jab aap aaiye toh kuch log jo idhar udhar jeet gaya hai, agli baar sab haarega. Humko poora bharosa hai (Those who have won this time will lose the next elections. I’m confident about it). They never worked for the nation. They never served the country. The country will progress under your (PM Modi) leadership” said Kumar.

During his address at the NDA meeting, the JDU chief also affirmed his support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “All pending Bihar projects will be completed. It’s great that we’ve all come together, and we’ll all work with you (PM Modi). You will be sworn in as Prime Minister on Sunday, but I wanted you to do so today. We will be there for you whenever you take the oath…We will all work together under your leadership.”

The newly elected MPs of the NDA attended the meeting of the alliance, which was held days after the Lok Sabha results.

  • JD(U) call for Agnipath review correct, scheme withdrawal long overdue: Sanjay Singh

New Delhi: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday said the JD(U)’s demand for review of Agnipath scheme is “100 per cent correct” and stressed that the scheme should have been withdrawn earlier. Earlier in the day, JD(U) leader K C Tyagi told reporters here that the party has demanded a review of the Agnipath scheme, and will “pursue” the caste census issue. Speaking to PTI Videos, Singh said, “Agniveer is betrayal with Mother India and the Army. The prime minister should have withdrawn it earlier.” “Earlier a jawan was trained for a year but under this scheme (Agnipath), you reduced the training period to six months. Every youth is ready to sacrifice his or her life for the country. But you are weakening the army. This demand from JDU is 100 per cent correct,” the AAP leader added. Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav of RJD were spotted on the same flight from Patna to Delhi on Wednesday, heading to their respective NDA and INDIA bloc meetings. Their presence together on the flight, with Nitish Kumar greeting his former deputy seated behind him, sparked speculation about potential shifts in political alliances. Images of the encounter circulated widely on social media, leading to discussions about Nitish possibly rejoining the INDIA bloc, which he helped form before leaving the JD(U)-RJD-Congress coalition earlier this year to rejoin the BJP-led NDA. While spokespeople for both parties dismissed the encounter as a coincidence, Tejashwi hinted at future developments, urging patience and suggesting that observers wait and see how things unfold.NDA meeting on June 5, 2024Setting the tone for his third straight term as the head of a coalition government, Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting of the leaders of NDA parties who unanimously elected him as its leader.”Met our valued NDA partners. Ours is an alliance that will further national progress and fulfil regional aspirations. We will serve the 140 crore people of India and work towards building a Viksit Bharat,” Prime Minister Modi said on X after the meeting. At the NDA meeting at PM’s residence, TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, LJP(R) leader Chirag Paswan, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, Jana Sena’s Pawan Kalyan, AGP’s Atul Bora and NCP’s Praful Patel were among the 21 leaders from 16 parties present. The meeting was also attended by BJP’s Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and J P Nadda.

Asked by a reporter if he is in the NDA, Naidu shot back,”We contested the elections together. Why do you doubt.”

NDA MPs to formally elect Modi as leader on June 7The NDA MPs will meet on June 7 to formally elect Modi as their leader and the alliance leaders will then meet the President of India to submit their letters of support, HAM (Secular) leader and former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said after attending the meeting.

Modi’s oath ceremony The new government may be sworn in over the weekend, sources said, adding that there is a view to wrap up the formalities quickly to not allow any mood of uncertainty to build up, something a buoyant opposition may push.

INDIA bloc in “wait and watch” modeWith the numbers stacked in favour of the ruling NDA, the INDIA bloc indicated a “wait and watch” approach after its old allies Nitish Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu, who are now in the NDA, did not reciprocate to overtures and threw their weight behind Modi.

After nearly two-hour deliberations with other INDIA bloc parties, Kharge said the opposition leaders resolved to continue their fight against the “fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi” even as they thanked the people for their overwhelming support to the bloc.

“We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to realise people’s desire not to be ruled by the BJP’s government,” Kharge said while reading out a statement adopted by all the alliance constituents after the deliberations at his residence.

He said the decision has been taken by all constituents of the INDIA bloc in one voice.

The joint statement indicated that the alliance is keeping its options open while choosing not to stake a claim at government formation for now.

The Congress president had convened the meeting to discuss the political situation and the election results, explore any possibility of government formation and whether to reach out to their old partners Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu.

Kharge said that the opposition would continue to work together and would definitely stand by the promises made to the people and keep them.

“The constituents of the INDIA bloc thank the people of India for their overwhelming support. The people’s mandate has been a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation,” Kharge said.

“This is a mandate in defence of the Constitution of India, and against price rise, unemployment and crony capitalism and also to save democracy,” Kharge added while announcing the decision of the alliance partners.

In his opening remarks, Kharge said the alliance welcomes all parties that share its fundamental commitment to the values enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution and to its many provisions for economic, social and political justice.

Kharge, flanked by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP (SCP) president Sharad Pawar, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and other leaders including Sharad Pawar, Sitaram Yechury, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Champai Soren, Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh, D Raja and Sanjay Raut, said the grouping will continue to fight against the “fascist rule” of the BJP.

“The people’s mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation. This is a political and moral defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Kharge said.

A resolution was passed at the NDA meeting which said the alliance government will continue working to lift people’s living standards for the country’s all-round development while conserving its heritage.

“We are all proud that the NDA fought the 2024 Lok Sabha polls unitedly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and won. We all NDA leaders unanimously elect Narendra Modi as our leader,” it added.

NDA resolves to continue development agenda under Modi’s leadershipThe resolution also said that people have seen the country being developed in every sector in the last 10 years due to the pro-people policies of the NDA government under Modi.

Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Jha, who was present in the meeting, said the formalities related to the formation of the government at the Centre under Modi are expected to be over soon.

However, it will be a different act for him this time as the BJP has fallen well short of the majority and depends on allies for the government-formation after enjoying a comfortable majority on its own in the previous two terms of his government.

Hosting the meeting, the BJP presented a picture of collective partnership with its allies with Naidu, Kumar and Shinde seated to the left of Modi while Nadda, Singh and Shah flanked the prime minister on his right.

In terms of their parties’ strength, Naidu, Kumar and Shinde are the three biggest NDA constituents in that order after the BJP.

The parties of Naidu and Kumar, who together command the support of 28 MPs, have rubbished speculation on their future moves.

Naidu has reiterated his support to the BJP, a view echoed by JD(U)’s Jha as well.

All leaders congratulated the PM for his leadership and the strides our nation has made under him. They appreciated the PM’s hard work and efforts in nation-building, he said.

Modi hails historic NDA mandateDuring the meeting, Modi emphasised the significance of the historic mandate for the NDA’s third consecutive government, highlighting that such a mandate hadn’t been seen in the country for over 60 years. His allies commended Modi for his vision of “Viksit Bharat” and affirmed their partnership in this endeavour. Additionally, they praised his efforts in enhancing India’s global stature and tackling poverty, expressing their commitment to sustaining these initiatives.

  • Kingmaker Politics: What Do Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, Nitish Kumar’s JDU Want From Modi 3.0? |

The Lok Sabha elections are done and dusted, but the anticipation for the 2024 cabinet members is continuous. However, all the NDA leaders selected the Prime Minister as their PM candidate unanimously, and the demands from the branded ‘Kingmakers’ are yet to be fulfilled.

After the unforeseen poll verdict, two parties, Nitish Kumar’s JDU and N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP, with 12 and 16 seats, respectively, emerged as the highly demanded parties, with both the NDA and INDIA bloc seeking their loyalty.

Although Kumar and Naidu have pledged their allegiances to the NDA, they do possess adept negotiation skills and understand the importance of leveraging their support. Had the BJP achieved a majority independently, allies would have had to accept whatever they were offered. Yet, with the numbers falling short of a clear majority, a strategic opportunity has emerged, one that these seasoned politicians are poised to seize.

Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party has asked for two ministries along with the position of Lok Sabha House speaker in exchange for his party’s commitment, reports indicated.

Meanwhile, JDU leader KC Tyagi, while talking to the media, said that Bihar requires special status for the state. He expressed the expectation that, considering the significant support received from Bihar, the new government would take the initiative to grant Bihar special status and conduct a nationwide caste census. However, he added that JDU’s support for the NDA is unconditional.

A preferential status for Andhra Pradesh is another key issue that may come up in the negotiations. In fact, it was a dispute over a special status demand that prompted Mr Naidu to part ways with the BJP in 2016.

  • Purnia Lok Sabha Seat: Pappu Yadav’s Independent Bid Sets Tone For Triangular Contest With RJD’s Bima Bharti And JDU’s Santosh Kumar |

New Dekhi: Purnia has emerged as one of the most prominent constituencies among the 40 Lok Sabha seats of Bihar. The northern state of Bihar is going to polls in all 7 phases and the results will be counted on June 4. Purnia district has one of the highest Muslim populations with approximately 6.5 lakh voters. The seat has around 1.5 lakh Yadav, 3.5 lakh Kushwaha and around 1.5 lakh upper caste voters. Purnia parliamentary constituency is going to take place in the second phase on April 26 as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced.

In the ongoing Lok Sabha Election, Purnia has become a hot seat after the INDIA alliance in Bihar fielded RJD candidate Beema Bharti ignoring Pappu Yadav, who later filed his nominations as an independent candidate. On the other hand, NDA has re-nominated JD(U) sitting MP Santosh Kumar from the seat.

    Tejashwi’s INDIA vs NDA Pitch

During the Purnia rally, RJD leader Tejashvi Yadav urged the crowd to support his party candidate Beema Bharati and said there is a direct fight between the INDIA alliance and NDA. “Choose INDIA bloc, and if you do not choose INDIA’s Bima Bharti, then choose the NDA. Saaf Baat! Saaf Baat!” he said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, JD(U) candidate Santosh Kumar secured a victory against Congress candidate Uday Singh Alias Pappu Singh. Kumar had bagged 6,32,924 votes while Singh had polled 3,69,463 votes. In 2014, the contest was between the same candidates with Kumar emerging as the winner. • Mystery donations: TMC and JD(U) claim electoral bonds left anonymously at their offices

The Trinamool Congress and JD(U) provided bizarre explanations in their electoral bond disclosures for 2018-19. They claimed that unidentified individuals had delivered sealed envelopes to their respective offices in Kolkata and Patna, leaving them unaware of the donors’ identities. The Election Commission on Sunday made fresh electoral bonds data public for the period prior to 2019.

While JD(U) revealed the identities of donors contributing Rs 3 crore out of the total Rs 13 crore received in April 2019, the TMC did not disclose the identities of donors who collectively contributed nearly Rs 75 crore through electoral bonds between July 16, 2018, and May 22, 2019.

The TMC stated in its submission to the Election Commission on May 27, 2019, that most of these bonds were sent to their office anonymously, either dropped in a drop box or delivered by messengers, making it impossible for them to ascertain the names and details of the buyers. Similarly, JD(U) stated in its submission on May 30, 2019, that someone had delivered a sealed envelope containing 10 electoral bonds of Rs 1 crore each to their office in Patna on April 3, 2019.JD(U) reiterated that they had no knowledge of the donors’ details, emphasizing that they were unaware due to the absence of the Supreme Court order at the time of bond receipt, with only the government’s gazette notification being in effect.

TMC suggested that identities could be established using the unique numbers assigned to electoral bonds issued by the State Bank of India. They indicated that SBI, as the sole issuer of these bonds, possessed all necessary details of the bondholders, including their KYC documents, PAN card, identity proof, address proof, and other supporting documents as per the bank’s requirements.

EC makes fresh electoral bonds data publicThe Election Commission (EC) on Sunday information on electoral bonds on Sunday, which was previously submitted in sealed envelopes to the Supreme Court and later mandated to be made public. These details cover the period preceding April 12, 2019. In accordance with the Supreme Court’s interim order from April 12, 2019, political parties had submitted data on Electoral Bonds in sealed envelopes, as stated by the poll panel in a statement.Initially, the State Bank of India (SBI) had provided data spanning from April 12, 2019, until the cancellation of the bonds by the apex court last month. However, the recent disclosure is based on declarations made by various political parties in November last year regarding the bonds they redeemed since the scheme’s launch in early 2018, excluding the final few tranches.According to the latest data shared by the EC, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received the highest funds through these bonds, totaling Rs 6,986.5 crore since their launch in 2018, followed by West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress (Rs 1,397 crore), Congress (Rs 1,334 crore), and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (Rs 1,322 crore).

Odisha’s ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ranked fifth, receiving Rs 944.5 crore, followed by the DMK at Rs 656.5 crore and Andhra Pradesh’s ruling party YSR Congress at nearly Rs 442.8 crore.

The latest data release reveals that the Janata Dal (Secular) obtained bonds worth Rs 89.75 crore, including Rs 50 crore from Megha Engineering, the second-largest buyer of electoral bonds. Future Gaming emerged as the largest purchaser of electoral bonds, acquiring Rs 1,368 crore worth, with almost 37 percent directed to the DMK. (With TOI inputs)
