The political landscape of Bihar witnessed a generational shift today when Nishant Kumar, the son of veteran leader and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, took his first step into active politics by becoming a member of Janata Dal (United). The ceremony at the provincial party office in Patna drew massive crowds, fulfilling weeks of intense speculation.
Sanjay Jha, JDU’s national executive president, personally welcomed Nishant into the party. The event saw the presence of heavyweights like Lalan Singh, Umesh Kushwaha, Shravan Kumar, and Lesi Singh, along with a sea of enthusiastic supporters, reflecting the significance of this development.
Delivering his maiden speech, Nishant struck a tone of humility and determination. He thanked everyone for their precious time and expressed his commitment to party work. ‘I come here today to take JDU membership and actively contribute to its growth,’ he stated firmly.
Addressing his father’s Rajya Sabha move, Nishant said, ‘This is his personal decision, which I respect and accept. We will all work under his guidance.’ He emphasized strengthening the organization from the worker level upwards.
Turning emotional, Nishant lauded Nitish Kumar’s 20-year tenure. ‘The work my father has done will reach every citizen. Bihar and India take pride in his achievements.’ He made a heartfelt plea to maintain trust in the senior Kumar, asking party cadres to stay motivated.
This induction comes at a crucial juncture for JDU, aiming to consolidate its position ahead of key electoral battles. Observers note that Nishant’s youth and clean image could appeal to younger voters, potentially expanding the party’s base in urban and semi-urban areas. The event’s grandeur signals JDU’s long-term vision of dynastic continuity blended with organizational renewal.
