The Union Government announced on Thursday a major boost to farmer incomes through expanded MSP operations in Chhattisgarh and a groundbreaking organized purchase of lentils in Bihar. These developments underscore India’s commitment to agricultural self-reliance and price stability.
Chhattisgarh’s MSP framework under PM-AASHA has gained momentum, with NCCF and NAFED leading the charge. The state’s proactive measures include digital farmer registration on the e-Samridhi platform and widespread awareness drives, including TV spots on Doordarshan.
Operations are buzzing at 85 PACS centers in key districts such as Dhamtari, Durg, Balod, Baloda Bazar, Raipur, Raigad, and Sarangarh. Soon, more districts like Surguja, Kondagaon, and Korea will join, broadening the reach.
In a historic first for Bihar, NCCF has kicked off structured masoor dal procurement under the Atmanirbhar Dalhan Mission. Targeting 32,000 MT by 2026, the initiative has registered 16 PACS/FPOs, enrolled 59 farmers, and completed purchases of 100.4 MT. Advanced warehousing with Central Warehousing Corporation ensures quality preservation.
NAFED plans to amplify efforts via its Price Support Scheme network. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs highlights how these steps enhance infrastructure, digital integration, and market linkages, promising greater efficiency, transparency, and farmer benefits. Ultimately, they contribute to a robust food security apparatus and steady prices, advancing the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
