Mumbai’s skyline isn’t the only thing rising in India—the population of ultra-rich individuals is skyrocketing too. According to a new analysis, India’s UHNWIs, currently at 19,877, will swell by 27% to over 25,217 by 2031.

The study spotlights a 58% rise in billionaires over five years, projecting 207 by 2026, securing India the third spot globally after the US and China. By 2031, this elite group could hit 313, elevating India’s global billionaire share to 8%.

India’s UHNWI footprint globally now ranks sixth, with its proportion climbing to 2.8% by 2026 from just over 2% previously. This signals the country’s deepening influence in international wealth circles.

Wealth distribution is spreading: Mumbai holds 35.4%, Delhi 22.8%, and tier-2 cities like Chennai and Hyderabad are surging. Bengaluru faces a minor setback.

Driving factors include digital revolutions, booming IPOs, private capital, and resilient family enterprises. As Shishir Baijal, Chairman of Knight Frank India, notes, these elements are crafting a more sophisticated financial ecosystem.

This wealth explosion promises ripple effects across real estate, luxury markets, and economic policy, cementing India’s status as a global wealth powerhouse.
