  • Purnia Lok Sabha Seat: Pappu Yadav’s Independent Bid Sets Tone For Triangular Contest With RJD’s Bima Bharti And JDU’s Santosh Kumar |

New Dekhi: Purnia has emerged as one of the most prominent constituencies among the 40 Lok Sabha seats of Bihar. The northern state of Bihar is going to polls in all 7 phases and the results will be counted on June 4. Purnia district has one of the highest Muslim populations with approximately 6.5 lakh voters. The seat has around 1.5 lakh Yadav, 3.5 lakh Kushwaha and around 1.5 lakh upper caste voters. Purnia parliamentary constituency is going to take place in the second phase on April 26 as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced.

In the ongoing Lok Sabha Election, Purnia has become a hot seat after the INDIA alliance in Bihar fielded RJD candidate Beema Bharti ignoring Pappu Yadav, who later filed his nominations as an independent candidate. On the other hand, NDA has re-nominated JD(U) sitting MP Santosh Kumar from the seat.

    Tejashwi’s INDIA vs NDA Pitch

During the Purnia rally, RJD leader Tejashvi Yadav urged the crowd to support his party candidate Beema Bharati and said there is a direct fight between the INDIA alliance and NDA. “Choose INDIA bloc, and if you do not choose INDIA’s Bima Bharti, then choose the NDA. Saaf Baat! Saaf Baat!” he said.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, JD(U) candidate Santosh Kumar secured a victory against Congress candidate Uday Singh Alias Pappu Singh. Kumar had bagged 6,32,924 votes while Singh had polled 3,69,463 votes. In 2014, the contest was between the same candidates with Kumar emerging as the winner. That time, the JDU had got 4,18,826 votes while Pappu Singh had received 3,02,157 votes. In 2019, Kumar increased his vote share by around 13 per cent.

  • Pappu Yadav: Bihar: Pappu Yadav adds to Congress woes, says will enter LS fray from Purnea as Independent

Purnea: Congress leader Pappu Yadav on Thursday said he would file his nomination from Purnea as an Independent candidate.

The move could stir up trouble in the INDIA bloc in the state, as the Congress and the RJD recently clinched a seat-sharing deal as part of which the former set aside Purnea for the latter.

Thereafter, the RJD candidate Bima Bharti filed her nomination from Purnea.”… Today is a new chapter of my life because I have won everyone’s heart and I have received everyone’s blessings. I will work for the strength of INDIA bloc, Congress at any cost. The county wants Rahul Gandhi to be the PM. The country has seen enough caste discrimination and Hindu-Muslim divide, now there should be talk about the youth of this country and the economy of the country…,” Yadav said, speaking to reporters on Thursday.

Yadav said that though he was distressed in the last few days he has won the heart of the country.

“I have definitely been tortured and distressed in the last 14 days but I have won the heart of the country. Winning elections doesn’t matter to me. I wan to win the trust of the country and I have won the trust of Bihar,” Yadav said speaking to reporters on Thursday.Speaking about his relations with the Congress, Yadav said, “Congress family is with me, I have won their trust and I’ll be with this family forever.”Pappu Yadav, who has been an independent MP from Purnea twice, was demanding a ticket from the Congress Party.

It is worth noting that the former MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, who merged his Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) with the Congress, is adamant about contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Purnia constituency, the seat given to the RJD as per the agreement reached by the alliance.

His stand has put pressure on the Grand Alliance in Bihar. The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), the opposition coalition in Bihar, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, recently announced that the RJD, its largest constituent, will contest 26 out of the state’s 40 Lok Sabha seats, including Purnia, in the upcoming elections.

Pappu Yadav has even urged RJD supremo Lalu Yadav to reconsider his decision regarding Purnia and give it to the Congress since the RJD announced that it would field former minister and Rupauli MLA Bima Bharati from the seat.

PATNA:  Angry over the arrest of her husband Pappu Yadav, senior Congress leader and former MP from Bihar’s Supual, Ranjeet Ranjan, took to Twitter to warn Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of repercussions if her husband contracted Covid-19 in prison.

Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, former Madhepura MP and chief of Jan Adhikar Party (JAP), was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a 32-year-old case of kidnapping lodged in Madhepura.

Taking to twitter, Pappu Yadav’s wife, Ranjeet Ranjan, who is also the AICC secretary and national spokesperson of Congress Party warned: “@Nitish Ji, Pappu ji is corona negative, if he turns positive, if I did not bring you and four other people and an ambulance thieve, involved in this conspiracy, out of the CM residence and stand at a crossroads, then my name is not Ranjeet Ranjan”.

She also said that Pappu Yadav had undergone a serious surgery a few days ago and he was advised by doctor to rest for three months.

“But putting his life at risk and despite doctors’ advise, he continued serving the people of Bihar amid the Corona crisis,” she told the media.

Accusing the Bihar government of plotting against Pappu Yadav, she said were he to contract the infection, she would bring the conspirators to book.

Pappu’s arrest had triggered a public outrage, with even NDA allies slamming the move.

  • Pappu Yadav’s arrest reveals NDA faultlines as allies slam Nitish

    Express News Service
PATNA:  The arrest of Jan Adhikar Party chief and Madhepura ex-MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav in Patna on Tuesday laid bare the fault lines in the NDA, with two important allies the Hindustan Awami Morcha (HAM) and the Vikashsheel Inssan Party (VIP) launching a scathing attack on incumbent Nitish Kumar.

Pappu Yadav was arrested by the Patna police for violating lockdown guidelines by visiting the Patna Medical College Hospital without obtaining e-pass.

He was later handed over to the Madhepura police. Yadav has been actively helping the Covid across the state and visiting hospitals to assess the infrastructure.

A couple of days ago, he had a spat with BJP Chapra MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy over dozens of ambulances lying idle at Saran.

The Amnour police had lodged an FIR against him for allegedly damaging some ambulances at Vishwa Prabha Community Centre.

Expressing his displeasure, ex-CM and HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi said: “If a public representative is arrested for serving public then it sets a dangerous precedent for humanity.”

Had his arrest followed a judicial enquiry fixing responsibility, it would have been alright. However, such highhandedness may rightly spark public outrage.

Soon after Manjhi’s reaction, minister of fisheries and animal husbandry and VIP chief Mukesh Sahni, too, voiced his concern.

“Instead of motivating people to offer selfless service, arresting selfless workers like Pappu Yadav comes across as insensitive,” he said.

Yadav’s arrest had elicited sharp response from the Opposition camp as well.

Soon after Yadav’s arrest, his supporters created a ruckus outside the Gandhimaindan police station in Patna.

They cried foul over his handing over to the Madhepura police.

Meanwhile, Yadav said that he had been helping families for the last 1.5 months amid the raging pandemic.

“They will tell you why have I been arrested. I have helped every family for the last 1.5 months. I was at it despite coming out of an operation,” he said.

He added, “The government and (Chief Minister) Nitish babu will know what this is. An arrest doesn’t take place for violation of lockdown.”

After his arrest, he took to Twitter to hit out at the government saying, “Arrest in the name of lockdown violation. The government has killed itself with an axe on its foot. If people wake up, (Prime Minister) Modi-Nitish, this will hit you heavily.”

There are currently 1,05,104 active COVID-19 cases in Bihar, as per the union health ministry. A total of 4,93,189 recoveries and 3,357 deaths have been reported from the state so far.

The state government had imposed a state-wide lockdown from May 4 till May 15 in light of the surge in coronavirus cases.

  • Bihar Ambulance Exposure case: Pappu Yadav arrested by Patna Police

Pappu Yadav on Tuesday said that he has been arrested by Patna Police. This comes days after he had raised the issue of ambulances parked around and gathering dust at a ground in Bihar.

Accompanied with his supporters, Yadav visited the place Friday where the ambulances were standing and after a tiff with the security men went inside and removed tarpaulin cover from the stationary ambulances.

The former MP came down heavily on Rudy for not utilising the ambulances when Covid patients are dying for want of emergency services.

“People are paying as much as Rs 12,000 to ferry Covid patients to hospitals even though the hospital maybe just 1 km away. There is an acute shortage of ambulances and the Saran MP has kept about 100 ambulances.

“He has distributed some ambulances among his own men. There should be a probe into the matter. The MPLAD fund is public money,” said the Jan Adhikar Party chief.

A supporter of Rudy has given a complaint to the police against the JAP leader for trespassing and vandalising the ambulances.

An FIR has been registered against Yadav with the Amnour police station Saturday, Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar said.

The incident triggered a war of words between Rudy and Yadav.

Rudy, former union minister and sitting Lok Sabha member from Saran, said the ambulances were standing due to non-availability of drivers to ply them due of prevalence of Covid.

He attacked Yadav for playing politics over the issue and threw a challenge to arrange drivers for use of the vehicles.

Yadav retorted sharply and at a press conference in Patna paraded some drivers carrying their driving license who are prepared to run those stationed ambulances.

He appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to prevent such activities and utilise services of these drivers who are ready to work.

Yadav, a multiple times MP from Madhepura, carrying ‘Robinhood’ image has been seen helping Covid patients get oxygen cylinder and visiting hospitals to help the needy.

Recently, a video had gone viral showing him stopping a truck in which bouncers were transporting medical oxygen cylinders to a private hospital in the state capital.

JAP chief lost election from Madhepura in 2019 to JD(U) leader Dinesh Chandra Yadav.
