Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in Sikkim for a two-day sojourn has set the hill state abuzz with anticipation. The highlight was a spectacular mega roadshow in Gangtok on Sunday, where thousands lined the streets, turning the event into a city-wide extravaganza.
Speaking to media, Bimal Kumar Rai of the Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh shared the community’s fervor. ‘The Prime Minister’s visit fills us with joy. We seek his blessings and hope the Sikkim government presents our demand for tribal administration recognition under India. We’re confident he’ll allow us to speak directly.’
Reflecting on Sikkim’s journey, Rai noted, ‘In 50 years, we’ve achieved stellar advancements in economy, society, and education. Intellectual growth, lifestyle transformations, and statehood have elevated our living standards immensely.’
K.G. Namgyal from the Lal Bazar Youth Development Committee voiced similar hopes. ‘Grateful to our leaders for this platform, we implore PM Modi to focus on our region. Critical shortages plague us—roads, power, water, LPG. With great expectations from the nation’s leader, we await solutions, particularly during our 50th statehood anniversary celebrations.’
The roadshow showcased Sikkim’s unity and Modi’s connect with the masses. As the state revels in its milestone year, leaders are optimistic about infrastructure boosts and policy nods. Tomorrow’s engagements could herald a new chapter for Sikkim’s growth story, blending tradition with modernity.
