The debate surrounding the Women’s Reservation Bill has intensified as Tejashwi Yadav accused the ruling BJP of using the legislation as a political tool for the upcoming elections. Yadav pointed out that the bill was introduced in haste, without addressing the long-standing demand for a ‘quota within a quota.’ He argued that without a specific provision for OBC and Dalit women, the bill remains incomplete and exclusionary. The RJD leader also raised concerns regarding the delimitation process, suggesting that the BJP is relying on outdated data to serve its political ends. He insisted that any such implementation should only follow a fresh census, which would accurately reflect the growth in the population of backward classes and Dalits. According to Yadav, a caste census is the only path to ensuring that reservation benefits reach the most marginalized women in society, rather than just a privileged few.
