Panic over fuel prices has been averted after the PIB Fact Check Unit dismantled a misleading social media claim of a Rs 12.50 per litre surge in petrol and diesel rates. Issued on Wednesday, the clarification stated unequivocally that the purported government order is fabricated.

‘The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has not released any such notification,’ PIB posted on X, urging the public to rely solely on verified channels for updates. This move counters the rapid spread of misinformation at a time when West Asian conflicts are driving oil price volatility worldwide.

Echoing this, a top official revealed no immediate plans for price adjustments in retail fuels. In a detailed briefing, Petroleum Ministry’s Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma provided comprehensive assurances on supply chains.

‘LPG, petrol, diesel – all are available in ample quantities with no price changes. We’ve ensured 100% supply for domestic LPG, PNG, and transport CNG users,’ Sharma noted, calming fears fueled by global uncertainties.

The government’s proactive fact-checking underscores its commitment to transparency amid external pressures. Citizens are advised against amplifying unconfirmed reports, which could lead to market distortions. With stocks steady and oversight continuous, the fuel sector remains resilient against speculative rumors.
