Mizoram’s law enforcement agencies launched a multi-day offensive against narcotics peddlers, confiscating heroin shipments totaling more than Rs 3 crore and detaining key players in the illicit trade. These actions underscore the perilous influx of drugs through the state’s porous borders.

Kicking off the series, April 26 saw the interception of 480 grams of heroin (Rs 95.8 lakh), with Sultan Ahmad Laskar from Assam arrested. The previous day, Abdul Salam Barbhuiya yielded 479 grams worth Rs 69.2 lakh upon his capture.

On April 24, police struck twice: first seizing 308 grams (Rs 61.6 lakh) from Thangrokhawi, followed by 22 grams (Rs 4.4 lakh) from a Myanmar supplier and an Aizawl local. Additional hauls on the same day in Ngopa netted 351 grams (Rs 70.2 lakh), and April 21 brought more recoveries in the capital.

Intensive questioning of detainees points to organized syndicates exploiting Mizoram’s geography. ‘This state is increasingly a hub for heroin smuggling,’ police noted. ‘Our blueprint to wipe it out is active, with relentless raids planned.’

As investigations deepen, authorities warn of heightened vigilance. The crackdown not only disrupts supply chains but also sends a strong message to traffickers, aiming for a drug-free Mizoram through sustained efforts and community cooperation.
