West Bengal’s politically charged Kasba assembly seat witnessed another TMC triumph as sitting MLA Javed Ahmad Khan clinched his fourth straight win, trouncing BJP rival Sandeep Banerjee with a decisive 20,974-vote margin. Khan polled 117,893 votes against Banerjee’s 96,919, solidifying TMC’s unyielding control in this vital Kolkata suburb.
Located in South 24 Parganas and part of Kolkata Dakshin parliamentary constituency, Kasba’s urban voters have consistently favored TMC since its inception in 2011. The by-election in 2026 drew sharp focus, with BJP aiming to dent TMC’s armor and Left Front hoping for a revival.
Key contenders included CPI(M)’s Dipu Das and Congress’s Mohammad Hasim Jishan Ahmad, but they couldn’t bridge the gap. Turnout reached 70-71%, a strong showing that highlighted the seat’s significance.
Historically, Kasba emerged from 2006 delimitation, with Khan dominating every election cycle—2011, 2016, 2021, and now 2026. BJP’s campaign, though vigorous, fell short against TMC’s grassroots machinery and Khan’s local appeal.
This result reinforces TMC’s urban dominance, posing challenges for opposition parties. As West Bengal’s political landscape evolves, Kasba’s outcome serves as a bellwether for TMC’s enduring strength in the state’s heartland.
