Prof. Kanhaiya Tripathi, Special Monitor, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), visited the Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi on April 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM. This visit was an important part of his official tour in Jharkhand.

The purpose of this visit was to assess and review the current status of human rights education and gender equality in higher educational institutions. During his visit, Prof. Tripathi had detailed discussions with the Institute’s Director, Prof. Rajeev Srivastava, officials, faculty members, and students.

Discussions were held on the current systems, challenges, and opportunities for promoting human rights awareness and gender sensitivity. The highlight of the visit was his valuable suggestions, emphasizing the strengthening of human rights awareness and student welfare. Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi will work towards implementing these suggestions in the near future after obtaining necessary approvals from the competent authority:

* Establishment of a dedicated Human Rights Cell in the institute.
* Strengthening gender sensitization initiatives on campus.
* Development of a dedicated application for student welfare, through which students can directly communicate their problems and suggestions to the concerned officials and authorities.
* Organizing workshops on human rights and gender equality to promote awareness and dialogue.
* Introduction of an Open Elective on Human Rights, which can also be conducted as a degree course/certificate program after approval from the Senate and Board of Governors (BoG).

During the visit, Prof. Tripathi also planted a sapling on the institute campus, reflecting the institute’s commitment to environmental conservation and social responsibility.

Additionally, he reviewed the work of various committees actively involved in student welfare at the institute, including the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad, Student Discipline Committee, Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe / Other Backward Classes Cell, Training and Placement Committee, and Research Advisory Committee. He appreciated the role of these committees, stating that they are making significant contributions to protecting student interests and fostering an inclusive environment.
