Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the backbone of India’s fighter jet production, welcomes Ravi Ke as its 22nd Chairman and Managing Director. Effective immediately after Dr. D.K. Sunil’s retirement, this appointment signals continuity and ambition in indigenous defense manufacturing.
Ravi Ke’s track record speaks volumes. He led the LCA Tejas division as General Manager and Executive Director, clinching landmark deals like 180 Tejas jets for the IAF and 156 Prachand helicopters for joint services. His efforts ensured these assets integrated seamlessly into operational fleets, enhancing national security.
With more than three decades spanning defense, aviation, manufacturing, and electronics, Ravi Ke shaped HAL’s trajectory as Director (Operations). His contributions earned the firm Maharatna recognition, elevating its stature among PSUs. Looking ahead, he vows to transform HAL into a world-class aerospace contender through AI adoption, process optimization, and talent development.
Key reforms include boosting aircraft availability via direct Air Force base connectivity and unified problem-solving protocols. A staunch ‘Make in India’ advocate, he increased local content in Tejas, scaled up Nashik production, and partnered private entities for critical parts, building a thriving supply chain.
Venturing into civilian aviation and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) has diversified HAL’s portfolio, promising sustained growth. Educated in Mechanical Engineering from Malnad College, with MBAs from IIM Ahmedabad and Toulouse, Ravi Ke brings boardroom savvy from the Multi-Role Transport Aircraft Limited.
With Tejas Mk-1A ramping up—fueled by incoming GE-404 engines—expect HAL under Ravi Ke to pioneer next-gen, Atmanirbhar defense solutions on the global stage.
