In a boost for women’s cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has chosen Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, and Humaira Kazi as Icon Players for the first-ever T20 Mumbai Women’s League. This announcement signals the league’s ambition to become a powerhouse in domestic cricket.
Representing their respective franchises, Sayali will captain Sobbo Mumbai Falcons. Saima Thakor aligns with Thane Sky Risers, and Humaira Kazi will spearhead Akash Tigers. Each brings a unique blend of skills and achievements to the table.
Sayali and Saima boast international caps for India, making them beacons of excellence. Humaira shines in domestic tournaments and India A matches, ensuring her team has a seasoned campaigner.
Excitement peaks ahead of the May 2 auction, where 2,411 registered players—2,048 men and 363 women—vie for spots. This massive turnout highlights Mumbai’s cricketing depth. Squads for women’s teams will feature 16-18 players, men’s 18-20.
‘MCA President Ajinkya Naik hailed the decision: ‘These Icon Players form the bedrock of our league. Designed for sustained growth, it will nurture talent, strengthen domestic pathways, and advance women’s cricket nationally. Their leadership will set benchmarks and motivate the next generation.’
League Governing Council Chairman Rajdeep Gupta noted, ‘Icons like these forge robust team brands and foster competition. They guarantee a launch infused with expertise and drive, positioning the league as a premier stage for women’s high-performance cricket.’
With auctions looming, the T20 Mumbai Women’s League is poised to captivate fans and unearth new talents in the city of dreams.
