Telangana’s fresh DGP C.V. Anand dropped a bombshell on Friday: the state’s police is gearing up for a full restructuring now that Naxalism is a fading memory. Speaking at a packed press meet shortly after taking office, he outlined bold plans to tackle modern crimes head-on.
‘Units like Greyhounds and SIB were born out of the Naxal menace in the ’80s and ’90s,’ Anand explained. ‘With the issue almost resolved, it’s time to reallocate our manpower wisely.’ He downplayed revival risks but vowed ironclad precautions.
Priorities include bolstering neglected wings hit by shortages. Following CM and Dy CM’s orders, the force will weed out redundant deployments. Road safety tops the list—Anand plans a dedicated bureau akin to TGCSB and EAGLE, aiming to unify traffic protocols and slash the annual 8,500 road deaths.
‘Greater Hyderabad sees 1,600 new vehicles daily; that’s the scale of our challenge,’ he underscored. Telangana Police has transformed into the nation’s best with cutting-edge reforms, Anand boasted, yet admitted ground-level slips in preempting communal flare-ups. ‘Capacity building for early detection is my mission.’
On cyber threats, he hailed TGCSB but called for boots-on-ground involvement from SPs and commissioners. Narcotics enforcement gets a massive push too—EAGLE and H-NE are shining examples, with mandates for statewide campaigns. Schools and colleges will see anti-drug squads activated via inter-departmental ties.
Welcomed with fanfare and a ceremonial guard of honor, Anand’s vision promises a dynamic, technology-savvy force ready for tomorrow’s battles.
