Nashik police have escalated their pursuit of justice against Ashok Kharat, a key figure in multiple criminal activities, by arresting him in yet another case—his seventh. Detained for approximately 40 days, Kharat’s custody has now been transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), signaling a deeper dive into his operations.

With 12 cases lodged against him in Nashik’s police stations, Kharat’s court appearance on April 25 for the sixth crime led to a brief three-day police remand. The moment judicial custody ended on Sunday, the seventh arrest followed immediately, preventing any respite.

Accused of sexual exploitation and linked to fake food supply chains, Kharat is stonewalling investigators. He provides no details on suppliers and appears to simulate amnesia, a tactic public prosecutors decry as deliberate obstruction.

Kharat has been paraded before courts 14 times in this period. Shiradi and Sinnar police stations are poised to seek his remand for their probes. During hearings, prosecutors highlighted his refusal to divulge critical information on the crime syndicate and drug networks, responding only with head nods.

Meanwhile, his wife Kalpana faces charges of abusing women and defrauding a farmer over land, but she’s evading capture. As the SIT probes intensify, this case underscores the challenges in dismantling local crime rings in Maharashtra.
