Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu erupted with political drama on Sunday as PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss tore into DMK for allegedly derailing the landmark Women’s Reservation Bill. In a packed press meet, he branded the opposition to the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill as a grave injustice to women, equating it to the worst form of betrayal.

The bill, rejected on April 17, sought delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies using 2011 census data to facilitate women’s quotas. Anbumani held DMK squarely accountable, predicting eternal resentment from Tamil Nadu’s female voters. ‘This is nothing short of kanyabhronahatti,’ he declared, invoking the horror of female infanticide.

He slammed CM Stalin’s dramatic bill-burning protest, calling for prosecution. Had it passed, Anbumani projected, the state would boast nearly 20 female MPs and 117 MLAs by 2031 from its current allocation. Referencing Modi and Shah’s assurances, he challenged DMK’s resistance to a 50% hike in parliamentary seats, which could benefit Tamil Nadu akin to northern states.

Amid growing worries about women’s security, Anbumani criticized DMK for undermining their political voice. He further chided Stalin for mudslinging at opponents rather than highlighting policy successes. With elections looming, Anbumani’s broadside positions PMK as a fierce defender of women’s rights in Tamil Nadu’s cutthroat politics, potentially swaying voter sentiments.
