The IPL 2026 calendar heated up at Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant called correctly at the toss against table-toppers Punjab Kings (PBKS). Opting to bowl, LSG aims to exploit early conditions in this crucial 29th match of the season.
A tactical switch saw LSG replace Digvesh Rathi with left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddarth. Pant was upbeat: ‘Bowling first it is. PBKS are strong, but we get to play freely. Prefer chasing bigger totals over 200.’ Meanwhile, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer kept faith in his unchanged XI, noting, ‘Batting first is new for us, a real challenge. No changes; we fight our own battles for a massive win.’
PBKS enters unbeaten in wins, triumphing in four of five outings, one washed out. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya’s opening fireworks, coupled with Iyer’s reliability, form the core. Arshdeep’s recent three-fer highlighted their bowling prowess, despite Chahal’s costly spell.
LSG lags with just two victories from five, their batting lineup faltering. Marsh, Markram, Pooran, and even Pant have disappointed. Shami and Yadav lead the attack effectively early on, but middle-overs leaks hurt.
Full PBKS XI: Prabhsimran Singh (keeper), Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (captain), Shashank Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.
LSG XI: Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (keeper/captain), Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Mukul Chaudhary, Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav, Manimaran Siddarth, Mohsin Khan.
With PBKS setting off, can LSG’s refreshed bowling unit disrupt their rhythm? Or will PBKS’ form continue to dominate? Expect a thriller as both teams eye momentum.
