New Zealand Cricket is set for a leadership refresh with the appointment of Jeff Allott, ex-international pacer, as the new CEO starting July 1. The decision underscores the board’s preference for proven insiders amid evolving global cricket dynamics.

Allott, reflecting on his journey, shared in an official release: ‘My deep involvement spans playing for New Zealand Cricket, serving as GM, and over eight years on the board. I’m excited to team up with players, staff, affiliates, and partners to build robust ties, cultivate a vibrant culture, and achieve excellence everywhere—from pitch to boardroom.’

Board Chair Diana Puketapu-Linden lauded the pick. ‘Allott’s profile is exceptional: elite playing credentials, hands-on GM experience at NZC, board tenure, and sharp business leadership. It’s a match that’s hard to beat,’ she emphasized.

She further elaborated, ‘We trust his blend of on-field insight, organizational savvy, commercial nous, and global outlook will steer NZC through its expansion phase seamlessly.’

Boasting two decades in cricket governance, Allott also holds robust business credentials and networks across India and South Asia. His career highlights include co-founding the players’ union in 2002, roles at Canterbury Cricket (2011-2013), and an eight-year directorship at NZC from 2013, ending in 2021. Lifetime membership followed in 2022.

Replacing Scott Weenink, who left last December, Allott becomes NZC’s sixth CEO, following luminaries like Chris Doig and Justin Vaughan. His earlier stint as GM (2008-2010) adds valuable institutional memory.

As cricket faces commercialization and international rivalries, Allott’s appointment positions New Zealand to strengthen its standing with experienced, connected leadership.
