Prime Minister Narendra Modi took center stage in Northeast cricket development by remotely unveiling the MNCA Indoor Cricket Academy in Imphal on Tuesday. Located at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, this BCCI-backed project is the first in a series aimed at equipping Northeastern cricket associations with world-class indoor facilities.

MCA Secretary Lairenjam Gitranjan Singh described the inauguration as a game-changer. He thanked Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary and ICC President, for championing the cause throughout his tenure. The academy boasts premium amenities: three practice pitches under cover, a professional gym, office spaces, and a temperature-controlled pool.

For the coming two years, BCCI will handle all upkeep expenses, allowing focus on talent development. Gitranjan highlighted its timely arrival, particularly for rainy seasons that previously disrupted training. ‘Coaching camps can now run uninterrupted, keeping players in Manipur,’ he said.

Reflecting on achievements, Manipur dominated the 2025 BCCI domestic circuit, making finals in five events and winning two U-19 championships with homegrown athletes. The indoor setup will amplify these gains, benefiting male and female players alike.

Excitement bubbled among youth trainees. Marvi beamed, ‘This feels amazing. My dream of becoming a pro is closer now—we’ll learn tons here.’ A peer echoed, ‘We’re overjoyed about the indoor stadium. Our techniques in batting and bowling will skyrocket.’

This development signals BCCI’s commitment to regional growth, potentially unearthing stars from Manipur and inspiring neighboring states. With PM Modi’s virtual ribbon-cutting, a new chapter in inclusive cricket infrastructure begins.
