The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for various districts in Jharkhand, warning of impending hailstorms, lightning, and strong winds starting April 26. The alert, which extends through April 28, highlights the possibility of severe weather in the northeastern and central regions of the state. Districts such as Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, and Jamtara in the northeast, along with Ranchi, Khunti, and Hazaribagh in the central belt, are expected to bear the brunt of this weather shift. The department has cautioned that wind speeds could accelerate to 60 km/h during peak storm activity.

This atmospheric turbulence comes after a period of intense heat where cities like Ranchi saw temperatures hovering around 39.6 degrees Celsius. The sudden arrival of moisture-laden winds is likely to trigger hailstorms in isolated pockets. Officials have urged citizens to stay alert and seek safe shelter during the periods of thunder and lightning. Farmers, in particular, are advised to take precautions to protect their standing crops from potential hail damage. The department emphasized that people should avoid standing under tall trees or near electric poles during the storms, as the risk of lightning strikes is significantly higher in open areas.
