BJP’s Amit Malviya Congratulates Dinesh Trivedi on Bangladesh Post

Speculation is rife in political corridors that Dinesh Trivedi, ex-Union Minister and Barrackpore MP, will be appointed India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh. BJP leader and IT Cell chief Amit Malviya fueled the talk by posting a congratulatory message on X.

‘Congratulations to former Union Minister and Barrackpore MP Dinesh Trivedi on being appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh,’ Malviya tweeted, amplifying the buzz from New Delhi.

A veteran of Indian politics, Trivedi wore many hats. In UPA times, he helmed the Railways and Health ministries. His 2012 Rail Budget fare increase proposal ignited a storm, leading to his ouster after Mamata Banerjee’s sharp rebuke. TMC then slotted Mukul Roy into the role.

Trivedi’s defection from TMC to BJP in early 2021 marked a significant realignment. He secured Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat multiple times and served in Rajya Sabha across two terms. Now 75, he steps into diplomacy, succeeding Pranay Verma.

This prospective appointment aligns with India’s push to normalize relations with Bangladesh following Sheikh Hasina’s dramatic exit amid protests and a regime change. Yunus’s US-supported interim period saw frictions escalate. With BNP’s Tarique Rahman now Prime Minister post-elections, optimism brews for renewed cooperation.

Trivedi’s cross-party experience positions him uniquely to navigate these dynamics, potentially bridging gaps and fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
