In a key diplomatic move, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, welcomed an African Union Commission delegation on Friday amid ramped-up preparations for the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit. The group, headed by AU Permanent Representative Committee Chair and Burundi Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe, arrived in New Delhi to align strategies.
Discussions centered on enhancing the multidimensional bonds between India and Africa, alongside detailed planning for the fourth summit on May 31. Singh shared on social media his satisfaction with the constructive exchange, noting the partnership’s role as a pillar of South-South cooperation.
The event, co-hosted with the AU, will convene leaders from African nations, commission members, and regional representatives. It seeks to fortify the India-Africa alliance and outline new pathways for cooperation in diverse fields. The theme ‘IA SPIRIT: India-Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation’ reflects the partnership’s expansive vision.
Leading up to the summit, senior officials will meet on May 28, followed by foreign ministers on May 29 to deliberate priority sectors. The External Affairs Ministry describes the forum as an essential dialogue mechanism, grounded in principles of respect, equality, unity, and prosperity.
Post the previous summit, India has scaled up its support through development assistance and capacity enhancement in Africa. This edition is poised to redefine friendships, boost joint efforts, and elevate South-South partnerships to new heights.
