In a powerful address at Umlingka, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma underscored that channeling resources into sports facilities and youth development is the cornerstone of the state’s prosperity. Inaugurating a state-of-the-art playground and indoor stadium costing Rs 3.5 crore, he positioned it as more than construction – it’s an investment in tomorrow.
Prominent attendees included local leaders R.V. Lyngdoh and Hamletson Dohling, alongside sports officials and community representatives from Dorbar Shnong. Sangma reflected on the administration’s commitment to equitable progress, reaching even the remotest areas of Meghalaya over recent years.
Governance, he argued, demands empathy – hearing the voices of citizens and turning their dreams into reality. Beyond grand highways and bridges, the real game-changer is empowering the youth. ‘This isn’t just expenditure; it’s seeding disciplined champions who will lead with excellence in every field,’ Sangma asserted.
The new complex, complete with badminton courts, changing areas, toilets, and administrative spaces, promises to transform lives. It will serve four nearby schools and benefit approximately 3,000 young people, offering them platforms to hone skills and build character.
Detailing wider sports policies, the CM revealed plans to bolster infrastructure and support federations, creating pathways for Meghalaya’s talents to shine on bigger stages. He called on residents to safeguard and utilize this asset collectively, ensuring its legacy endures.
Sangma’s vision paints a future where sports isn’t peripheral but central to holistic development. By prioritizing such initiatives, Meghalaya is not just building facilities – it’s constructing a resilient, competitive youth ready to propel the state forward.
