In a display of sheer athletic brilliance, 21-year-old Indian triple jumper Selva Prabhu captured the men’s title at the 2026 Oregon Team Invitational, leaping 16.61 meters to outpace fierce competitors at Hayward Field. His performance wasn’t a fluke; consistent jumps of 16.57 meters and 16.37 meters highlighted his technical mastery and explosive strength.
Edwards Aplaus earned silver with 16.53 meters, and Bennett Zhavor took bronze at 16.11 meters. This win is Prabhu’s third title this season, following his record-breaking 17.05-meter personal best at the NCAA Indoors in Fayetteville – a new Indian indoor record. He’s been in top form since January’s Thane Baker Meet, where his 16.49 meters met the Asian Games qualifying mark.
Prabhu’s accolades include a U20 World silver in 2022, and while the national record of 17.37 meters by Praveen Chithravel looms large, Prabhu is closing in fast. He also won gold at Stanford Invitational (15.76 meters) and has multiple silvers, proving his reliability. But for Asian Games selection, domestic participation in three events, including state meets, remains mandatory per AFI rules.
The Oregon event, a World Athletics Category E competition, boosts Prabhu’s profile as he eyes bigger stages. With the season underway, India’s triple jump future looks bright, powered by this young sensation’s relentless drive and potential to redefine boundaries.
