Indore’s Jawahar Tekri neighborhood witnessed a masterclass in deception on April 25 when a sharp-witted thief walked into a jewelry store and made off with a valuable gold pouch. The Chandan Nagar police station area became the scene of this audacious crime, perpetrated against shop owner Ashish, son of Girdhar Soni from Dwarkapuri.
The thief arrived posing as a prospective buyer, specifically asking for small earrings suitable for kids. Ashish obliged, displaying a selection, but the man dismissed them outright, insisting on alternatives. This back-and-forth continued, with the intruder keeping the jeweler off-balance by pointing to various items and demanding more choices.
In a split-second opportunity, while Ashish was distracted pulling out additional pieces from a drawer, the thief deftly pocketed the gold pouch. Without missing a beat, he announced his dissatisfaction and exited the premises smoothly.
The realization dawned on Ashish only after the man had left, prompting an immediate call to the police. Officers have filed an FIR and launched a full investigation, focusing on video recordings from surrounding surveillance cameras to trace the perpetrator.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how thieves exploit everyday customer interactions to commit crimes. Police are appealing to the public for any leads, while advising jewelers to train staff on spotting suspicious behavior. The search for the elusive thief intensifies as Indore’s merchants bolster their defenses.
