MP Farmers at Risk: Digvijaya Demands Moong MSP Buy Now

Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural landscape faces a crisis as summer moong prices plummet below MSP in private markets. Former CM Digvijaya Singh fired off a letter to CM Mohan Yadav on April 25, insisting on urgent procurement measures to rescue farmers from impending losses.

Drawing from inputs by ex-agri advisor Kedar Sirohi, Singh noted the crop is ready for harvest with significantly higher acreage this season—up 15-20% per official records. Without government intervention, the influx of produce risks driving prices even lower, hitting growers hard.

Every year, the state seeks central approval for MSP-based moong purchases, but this time around, no proposal has reached Delhi yet. Singh’s plea is clear: issue orders now to submit the plan under the Price Support Scheme, guaranteeing timely payments and market stability.

This demand underscores ongoing tensions between opposition leaders and the ruling dispensation over farmer welfare. As production surges, the government’s response will test its commitment to agrarian reforms in one of India’s key pulse-producing states. Singh remains hopeful for a quick resolution to avert economic hardship.
