In a significant judgment aimed at protecting the elderly, the Bilaspur High Court has ruled that employees hired on compassionate grounds must fulfill their responsibility toward the family of the deceased. The case involved Gyanti Tiwari, who lost both her husband and her son. Following her son’s death, his wife, Neha Tiwari, was granted a job in the police department. However, the petition alleged that Neha abandoned her mother-in-law shortly after securing the position. The court noted that the appointment was granted based on an affidavit promising to provide for the mother-in-law. Failing to honor this commitment constitutes a breach of service conditions, and the court cautioned that such negligence could lead to the revocation of the employment order.
