India’s weather landscape is currently split between extreme heat and localized rainfall. In Uttar Pradesh, the heat is intensifying, with districts like Banda recording temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius. The IMD predicts that this trend will continue for the next two to three days, after which light rain might bring some respite. Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is expected to see a ‘U-turn’ in weather today, with light showers likely to lower the temperature slightly from its current peak of 41 degrees Celsius. This mix of scorching heat in the plains and rain alerts in the capital highlights the volatile nature of the current atmospheric transition.

Down in Bihar, the situation is similar. Light rain is expected to provide brief relief today and tomorrow, but this will be short-lived. From April 19 onwards, the heat is expected to surge again, accompanied by heatwave conditions in several districts. The weather department has warned that the latter half of April will see a significant rise in mercury across most of East and North India. As the Western Disturbance moves through, the interplay between hot air masses and moisture is creating these varied weather patterns across the subcontinent.
