New Delhi’s broadcasting scene gets a creative boost with Prasoon Joshi, the acclaimed songwriter behind some of India’s most memorable film anthems, stepping in as Prasar Bharati Chairman. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed the appointment on May 2, entrusting him with steering the nation’s flagship public media entity.
Joshi’s career spans poetry, ads, and films, where his culturally attuned creations have captivated diverse demographics. Think of his evocative lyrics that capture India’s soul or ad campaigns that sparked national conversations—his portfolio is a testament to versatile storytelling prowess.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the pick, noting Joshi’s international stature coupled with a profound Indian heartbeat. ‘Under his guidance, Prasar Bharati will gain new vigor, depth, and a creative voice,’ he remarked, wishing success for the tenure ahead.
Before this role, Joshi led the CBFC from 2017, fostering dialogue between filmmakers and censors to refine certification processes. His corporate stints include CEO at McCann Worldgroup India and regional Chairman, alongside trusteeship at a premier arts center.
Facing digital disruption, Prasar Bharati—with its vast AIR network broadcasting in myriad tongues and DD’s eclectic programming—launched Waves OTT to stay relevant. The organization champions information dissemination, national integration, and heritage preservation across platforms.
Joshi’s vision could redefine public service media, blending tradition with tech-savvy outreach. As India demands content that informs and unites, his leadership promises to amplify Prasar Bharati’s role in shaping public discourse.
