Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the revitalization of NITI Aayog on Saturday, describing it as an indispensable pillar in India’s policy architecture. Speaking on the occasion of its reconstitution, he underscored its contributions to cooperative federalism, reform agendas, and improving quality of life for every Indian.

In a post on X, PM Modi announced the appointments: ‘Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Ashok Kumar Lahiri on being appointed as Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. Warm wishes also to the new full-time members: Rajiv Gauba, Prof. K.V. Raju, Prof. Gobardhan Das, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, and Dr. M. Srinivas. Wishing them a successful tenure.’

Modi personally met Lahiri to congratulate him, noting that his profound knowledge in economics would bolster India’s reform journey and align with the ‘Developed India’ vision. Lahiri, representing Balurghat in the West Bengal Assembly, brings a wealth of experience from roles like India’s 12th Chief Economic Adviser, affiliations with Delhi School of Economics, Asian Development Bank, and global bodies such as the World Bank and IMF.

A distinguished alumnus of Presidency University, Kolkata, Lahiri is revered for his academic prowess and policy insights. The Prime Minister is optimistic that this leadership will make policy-making more agile and outcome-oriented.

NITI Aayog, replacing the Planning Commission, has been instrumental in aspirational districts programs, sustainable development goals, and state-level collaborations. This fresh infusion of talent promises to amplify its impact, addressing challenges in agriculture, health, education, and urbanization. As the nation eyes ambitious growth targets, the think tank’s dynamic platform for innovation stands poised to shape a prosperous future.
