Jharkhand Imposes Stricter Fines for Public Smoking Following Presidential Approval

President Droupadi Murmu has approved the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Bill, 2021, passed by the Jharkhand Assembly. The new law will impose a fine of ₹1,000 for smoking in public places, a five-fold increase from the previous ₹200 fine. The state government had been actively pursuing the passage of this bill. With the President’s approval, the bill is expected to be implemented across the state soon.
