In a vibrant call to action against tobacco-related dangers, Telangana Minister for Industries and IT, D. Sridhar Babu, launched the Global Oral Cancer Awareness Marathon in Hyderabad on Sunday. The event at Raidurgam’s Satva Knowledge Park symbolized the state’s unwavering pledge to transform Telangana into a beacon of health by bolstering public health infrastructure, modernizing hospitals, and championing preventive care and awareness for every citizen.

Babu didn’t mince words on the perils of gutkha, paan masala, narcotics, and khaini, labeling them as ticking time bombs for health and life itself. The government, he noted, is cracking down hard on their consumption and black-market trade. To the younger generation, his message was clear: ditch these vices and channel energy into positive pursuits for a promising tomorrow.

Hundreds joined the 10-km and 5-km runs, including software engineers, medical experts, stars, and participants from Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Police Commissioner M. Ramesh started the shorter race, reinforcing law enforcement’s role.

Global Oral Cancer Trust Chairman Dr. K. Dilip Kumar highlighted how timely diagnosis can turn the tide against oral cancer, urging routine screenings. The minister lauded the marathon’s impact on educating people about avoidance, detection, and wellness.

Amid concerns over escalating fatalities from poor habits, Babu pushed for aggressive anti-tobacco drives. He promoted yoga and fitness routines, insisting everyone contribute to a robust society. This marathon isn’t just a run—it’s a movement aligning state policy with public zeal for wellness.
