A young student in Muzaffarpur fell victim to a harrowing ‘digital arrest’ style scam that lasted for three days. The incident began with a phone call from an individual claiming to be a high-ranking officer at the Motipur police station. The scammer used intimidation tactics, alleging that he possessed incriminating audio clips of the student and would make them public to ruin her family’s honor. Under immense psychological pressure, the victim surrendered her scholarship funds and later took a loan from a friend to pay the blackmailer, totaling a loss of Rs 63,000. Throughout the three-day period, the student remained in a state of terror, unable to seek help until she realized she had been targeted by a cybercrime syndicate. Following her complaint, Station House Officer Sanjeev Kumar Singh stated that the police are tracing the digital footprint of the suspects. Authorities have warned citizens to remain vigilant against such calls and to never transfer money to individuals claiming to be law enforcement over the phone.
