Buckle up, India’s truck and bus makers: fiscal year 2027 could deliver the biggest sales year ever. A fresh Crisil Ratings analysis projects commercial vehicle (CV) sales hitting 1.24 million units, smashing the FY19 record. After a blockbuster 13% jump in FY26, expect a more measured 5-6% growth next year on that elevated platform.

What’s fueling this boom? Homegrown demand, making up 92% of the pie, powered by infrastructure frenzy, reliable fleet replacements, and GST slashes that unlocked pent-up buys. Softer loan rates, fatter freight loads, and ramped-up mining and construction have supercharged the comeback.

LCVs lead the charge at 60% market share, with e-commerce and final-delivery demands pushing 5-6% gains, per Crisil’s Anuj Sethi. MHCVs follow at 4-5%, riding infra investments and cargo hauls. Trend toward bigger trucks on superior highways could cap volume spikes, even as demand holds firm.

Bus sales eye 3-4% uptick from replacements and state electric bus orders. This niche is electrifying quickest among CVs, with adoption gaining traction despite modest current levels.

Overseas shipments, just 8% of total, hit snags from Middle East unrest. Growth dips to 2-4% after FY26’s 17% surge, says Poonam Upadhyay. Yet, with domestic strength unyielding, FY27’s record tally looks locked in, signaling a maturing, resilient CV sector ready to haul India’s economic engine forward.
