A family from the Palasi area of Araria district is mourning the loss of their loved one, Tetri Devi, who fell victim to alleged medical malpractice at Dr. Jayesh Kumar’s hospital in Purnia. The family had admitted her for gallstone and uterine surgeries, trusting the medical professionals at Line Bazar. However, the experience turned into a nightmare as they witnessed hospital staff frequently consuming alcohol on the premises. When the family questioned the staff about their intoxicated state, they were met with verbal abuse and misbehavior.

After the surgery, the patient experienced severe swelling across her body. The hospital kept the family in the dark for over a month, exhausting their financial resources by collecting 2.50 lakh rupees for treatment. When the condition became terminal, the doctors referred her to Patna. Medical experts in the capital confirmed that a botched operation had caused a lethal infection. The news of her death sparked a massive protest at the Purnia hospital, where locals and relatives gathered to demand justice. Despite the recovery of liquor bottles and tetra packs from the clinic, no immediate police action was reported, raising questions about the nexus between local authorities and private clinics.
