Announcement of financial assistance and employment support for the deceased and injured, orders for magisterial inquiry

Raipur April 16, 2026/ Cabinet Minister of Chhattisgarh Government for Commerce Industry, Labor, Excise and Public Sector Undertakings Department, Mr. Lakhan Lal Dewangan, visited government and private hospitals in Raigarh district on Thursday and enquired about the condition of the workers injured in the Singithitrai Vedanta plant accident, wishing them a speedy recovery. He directed the hospital management to provide the best and appropriate treatment to all the injured. During this, he also interacted with the villagers and gathered information about their condition. The undergoing treatment workers expressed satisfaction with the treatment being received. Minister Mr. Dewangan was on a one-day visit to Raigarh district today.

Labor Minister Mr. Lakhan Lal Dewangan informed that a severe accident occurred at the Vedanta plant in Singithitrai village on April 14, in which many workers were affected. Upon receiving information about the incident, the district administration immediately became active. The Collector, Superintendent of Police, and administrative team reached the spot and commenced the rescue operation. The injured were given priority and admitted to Fortis Hospital, Metro, Medical College, and Apex Hospital in Raigarh, while the seriously injured were referred to Kalda Hospital in Raipur for better treatment.
The Chief Minister has also expressed deep concern over this incident and has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty as per labor laws.
In total, 36 workers were affected in this accident, out of which 20 have died, while 16 are injured and their treatment is ongoing. The Chief Minister has announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has sanctioned an ex-gratia assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
Meanwhile, the company management has assured to stand by the affected families. The company will provide financial assistance and employment support of Rs 35 lakh to the families of the deceased workers, and an assistance amount of Rs 15 lakh to the injured. Additionally, the injured will continue to receive their salaries until they fully recover, and counseling facilities will also be provided.
