A high-profile Chinese delegation marked a new chapter in Sino-Congolese relations by attending President Denis Sassou Nguesso’s inauguration in Brazzaville. Special Envoy Shao Hong, sent by President Xi Jinping, participated in the April 16 ceremony and held talks with the Congolese leader the next day.
As Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Shao conveyed Xi’s heartfelt felicitations during the April 17 Presidential Palace meeting. He noted the longstanding and vibrant friendship between China and Congo, stressing Beijing’s high regard for bilateral ties.
China is poised to work hand-in-hand with Congo to execute leader-level agreements, expand win-win collaborations, and honor FOCAC co-chair duties. Shao outlined ambitions to steer China-Africa relations forward while bolstering Global South unity and cooperation amid shifting geopolitics.
President Nguesso reciprocated with greetings for Xi, thanking him for the envoy’s presence. He lauded the exemplary Congo-China relationship and committed to nurturing this heritage through broader sectoral partnerships. Emphasizing enhanced dialogue on global hotspots, Nguesso aims to advance a high-level China-Congo community sharing a common destiny.
The visit highlights China’s proactive diplomacy in Africa, where investments in energy, transport, and development have transformed landscapes. With Congo’s rich resources and strategic location, this alliance promises mutual prosperity. Analysts see it as a counterbalance to Western influence, fostering equitable global development. As both nations look ahead, their partnership sets a model for international relations built on respect and shared goals.
