  • GPS tracking, panic button in Chhattisgarh buses for enhanced safety of women, girls

    Express News Service

RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday launched a command and control centre to ensure enhanced safety measures for the women and girls travelling in private passenger and school buses.

The state transport department has gone ahead to install the Global Positioning System (GPS) based vehicle tracking software on a designated server to locate the vehicle besides placing the panic buttons in buses to assist women and others who face any potential danger or untoward incidents. Such installation will also serve as a deterrent to criminal activities.

In Chhattisgarh, there are around 12000 passenger buses owned by private owners running across various routes of the state and over 6000 private school buses.

CM Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated GPS-based vehicle tracking software for the safety of women passengers. The GPS system provides accurate information about the real-time information on location of the bus and the route thereby ensuring enhanced safety. Passengers can press the panic button in the event of any emergency or accident to immediately notify both the police control room and the transport control room. This will promptly activate the emergency response support system of the state, i.e. Dial 112 services, said the officials. The staff of the nearest police station will swiftly respond.

“The Chhattisgarh government has executed a significant decision to install GPS systems and panic buttons in private buses, allowing passengers to access real-time information about the whereabouts of the bus in case of any crisis or urgent situation”, said Dipanshu Kabra, Transport Commissioner.

The state government has also established the Nirbhaya Command Centre to oversee the system keeping an eye on improved security measures intended for public transportation. The new approach includes mapping the routes of school buses and will enable an automatic alert mode if a school bus deviates from its prescribed route, ensuring the safety of children.

  • Rajasthan: ‘Molesters will not get government jobs in State’, says CM Ashok Gehlot

    Express News Service

JAIPUR: In Rajasthan, habitual eve-teasers and molesters will now be debarred from getting government jobs, said Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Aiming to bolster the safety and security of women and girls in the state, the Chief Minister on Tuesday announced those involved in eve-teasing or molestation of women and girls will be ineligible for government jobs.

During a crucial law and order meeting held late on Tuesday night, CM Gehlot expressed his unwavering determination to prioritise the well-being of women and girls. He directed the officials to take stringent actions against habitual miscreants and molesters.

Under this special move, the Gehlot government has ordered that character certificates of the men who get involved in eve teasing will have a special mention of this. As part of the new measures, character certificates of individuals caught eve-teasing or molesting women will explicitly mention their offence. Furthermore, the names of these offenders will be forwarded to the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and the Staff Selection Board.

The government has asked the police department to keep a detailed record of such men and records of those convicted in eve teasing will be sent to RPSC and the employees selection board. This proactive approach will ensure that such individuals are barred from future government job opportunities, as their applications will be rejected if they match the existing database.

CM Gehlot said,” Checking crime against women and crime against those who come under the vulnerable section of the society is our government’s top priority. We will ensure permanent cure of all problems that eve-teasers and molesters create in the state.”

He said a special operation will be initiated with policemen deployed in schools, colleges, and markets to monitor crime against women and girls. The places with higher rates of complaints regarding misbehaviour will receive special attention, and monitoring will be intensified through fixed points in these areas.

In addition to this, Gehlot has directed the officials to take strict action against the bars and nightclubs which open beyond the stipulated time. Along with the managers of these clubs, the responsibility of the owners will also be fixed. He said that action will be taken to cancel the license of such clubs for violating the rules.

With these new directives in place, Rajasthan is taking a progressive stance in safeguarding the dignity and well-being of women and girls, while ensuring that offenders face appropriate consequences for their actions.

Ahead of the assembly elections, the Gehlot government has been under a lot of pressure over the law and order situation in general and about rising crimes against women in the state. Rajasthan currently has the highest number of crimes against women in the country.

  • 13-year-old abducted, gang-raped by 9 men in MP’s Umaria district, 7 held

    Express News Service
BHOPAL: A 13-year-old girl was abducted and gang-raped by nine men twice within five days in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh

The incident happened at a time when the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government is running ‘Samman,’ a fortnight-long public awareness drive on crime against women across the state.

The girl was first abducted by a youth known to her on January 4 and then raped by the abductor and his six friends for two days. The perpetrators of the crime, before leaving her on January 5, threatened to kill her if she made the matter public, owing to which she remained mum.

The horror was repeated six days later when she was abducted again on January 11 by one of the men who had raped her on January 4 and 5. She was held captive in jungles as well as at a roadside dhaba and was raped by the kidnappers and other two men.

The girl’s agony didn’t end there as after being abandoned by the three accused, she was abducted again and allegedly raped by two truck drivers before she managed to flee and return to her house early morning on Friday.

The matter was reported to Katni police on Friday, after which multiple police teams conducted searches. “We’ve so far arrested seven accused and hope to nab the remaining accused of the first case by Saturday night,” Katni SP Vikas Kumar Shahwal said.

Shockingly, at least four such incidents in various parts of MP in the last six days have put a question mark on women’s safety.

On January 9, a 48-year-old widow was raped by a man with the help of four others inside her hut-cum-makeshift tea shop in the Sidhi district. The prime accused in the case also allegedly inserted an iron rod in the private parts of the widow, who is a mother of two. All the five accused have been arrested.

Two days later on January 11, a 13-year-old was kidnapped by her grocery trader neighbour, who then allegedly raped the teenager and murdered her in the Khandwa district. The 50-year-old grocery trader then made an unsuccessful bid to conceal the minor’s body in a sack with his wife’s help. The accused couple has been arrested.

A day later, a young woman was assaulted beyond imagination by her husband and father-in-law, suspecting her fidelity in Ujjain district. The accused men along with women of the family used sharp-edged weapons to cut the woman’s nose and breast and also inflicted injury on other body parts. While the woman is battling for life at the MY Hospital in Indore, two prime accused in the case have been held.
