AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran has sharply criticized the Tamil Nadu government for its handling of crimes against women and children following the alleged sexual assault of an eleven-year-old in Villupuram. Addressing the media, he described the latest incident as part of a troubling pattern that includes the recent brutal murder of a young girl in Coimbatore. Dhinakaran pointed out that the chief minister had previously positioned himself as a protector of women and girls, yet the frequency of such attacks suggests those assurances have not produced concrete safeguards. He called for immediate, visible action rather than routine expressions of sympathy. The AMMK general secretary stressed that law enforcement must deliver swift and severe punishment to deter future offenders. He also urged the creation of dedicated monitoring units in every district to track repeat offenders and protect school-going children. Residents near the Villupuram crime scene expressed shock and fear, saying the state’s response has been limited to press releases. Dhinakaran warned that continued inaction could erode public trust in the administration’s ability to ensure basic safety. He appealed to the government to move from promises to policies that prioritize prevention and rapid response.
