Mumbai: At a press conference in Mumbai on June 6, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut commented on Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis’s resignation proposal, calling it mere drama and launched a sharp attack on the leader by calling him the “villain of Maharashtra politics” and accused him for the BJP’s downfall in the state. Sanjay Raut remarked that they are all students of Prime Minister Modi, who himself uses emotions like crying and smiling to advance his political career. Additionally, he stated that the people of Maharashtra have rejected Devendra Fadnavis’s politics.

Lok Sabha Elections: Shiv Sena (UBT) firm on contesting from Sangli, nobody should do anything that will help BJP: Sanjay Raut
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said that his party was firm on contesting from Maharashtra’s Sangli Lok Sabha seat, stressing that nobody should do anything that will directly help the BJP. Raut was responding to questions about Congress’ exasperation after his party on Wednesday announced its first list of 17 candidates, including for the Sangli seat and a few from Mumbai.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) are partners in the opposition bloc Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.
Congress Legislature Party leader Balasaheb Thorat and Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra assembly Vijay Wadettiwar had asked their MVA partner to reconsider its decision, stressing that it did not suit “coalition dharma”. Raut said there is always give and take in an alliance and they gave Ramtek and Kolhapur seats to the Congress. He said Sena (UBT) has also given Amravati to the Congress.
“Even our local cadres were upset but we did not allow the resentment to spiral,” he said.
Congress took Ramtek so Sena (UBT) said it would contest from Mumbai North. In an alliance, there is a need to strengthen and expand it, not individual parties, he said. “The Congress has to lead the nation and we support the party in its endeavour. Will Congress give up the fight against BJP just for one seat (Sangli),” he asked. If the opposition alliance stays together as a cohesive unit, MVA can easily win the Sangli seat, he said. Sena (UBT) has nominated wrestler Chandrahar Patil for Sangli.
“If someone has other intentions to help the BJP indirectly, we will not allow that to happen,” he said.
According to Congress leaders, the party is keen to contest from Sangli, Mumbai South Central and Mumbai North West seats, all included in the list released by Sena (UBT).
Raut was also asked about the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) deciding to go solo in the Lok Sabha polls.
He said it is Ambedkar’s duty to protect the Constitution and democracy. “I am sure Ambedkar will not take any step to help the BJP,” he added.
Lok Sabha polls for Maharashtra’s 48 seats will be held in five phases between April 19 and May 20 and votes will be counted on June 4.

Shiv Sena (UBT) To Contest 2024 LS Polls On All 23 Seats In Maharashtra: Sanjay Raut On Seat-Sharing |
New Delhi: The INDIA bloc, representing a united front of the opposition, is gearing up for the imminent Lok Sabha Elections. While discussions among opposition parties are ongoing to determine seat allocations in various states for the LS polls, it appears that Shiv Sena (UBT) is set to contest all 23 seats in Maharashtra.
On Friday, Sena leader and MP Sanjay Raut asserted that while Congress may be a national party, Shiv Sena (UBT) holds significant influence in Maharashtra as a major political force. He affirmed that, as in the past, the party will participate in the election from all 23 seats, and there will be no alteration in the seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“Uddhav Thackeray is having positive discussions with the decision-making leaders of Congress including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and K C Venugopal. We have always said that Shiv Sena has always been fighting on 23 seats in the Lok Sabha elections including Dadra and Nagar Haveli and that will be firm,” Sanjay Raut told ANI.

— ANI (@ANI) December 29, 2023He said that in the meeting it was decided that further decisions on seats won by Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP would be taken later, adding that the Congress is an important ally and discussion will be held to decide the seat sharing ratio.
“During our (INDIA alliance) meeting, we decided that discussions will be done later on the seats that we have won. Congress did not win a seat in Maharashtra so they have to start from zero (seats) but Congress is an important ally for us in MVA. We will work together,” he added.
Even today Shiv Sena (UBT) is the number one party in Maharashtra, he asserted. “People are in full support of Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar. On the issue of seat sharing, there is no conflict among MVA. Shiv Sena has always been fighting on 23 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. We are having positive discussions with the decision-making leaders of Congress regarding seat sharing. On the seat-sharing we will talk with the Congress leaders only in Delhi and not Maharashtra local leaders,” he added.

Sharad Pawar could have avoided sharing stage with Modi to dispel doubts, says Shiv Sena (UBT)
By PTI
MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Tuesday said NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who shared stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Tilak National Award ceremony in Pune, could have stayed away from the event “to clear doubts about him.
The editorial in the Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ claimed that Modi accused the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of corruption and then engineered a split in the party and muddied the politics in Maharashtra.
“Still, Sharad Pawar will welcome Modi and this has not gone down well with some people. This was a good opportunity for Pawar to turn his back on the programme and clear the doubts about him among people,” the Marathi daily said.
Later in the day, former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan said such incidents lead to confusion and Pawar should make his position clear.
“I don’t think participating in such events is wrong. (But) All important opposition parties have come under the banner of INDIA alliance. Such incidents create an atmosphere of confusion,” the Congress leader said.
“If a senior leader like Pawar makes his position clear then it will be much better,” Chavan said.
PM Modi was on a visit to Pune on Tuesday to launch various development projects and also receive the Lokmanya Tilak National Award, instituted by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983 to honour the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak.
Notably, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar last month led a split in the NCP and joined the Shinde government along with eight other party MLAs.
The Saamana editorial said if Sharad Pawar would have stayed away from the event to protest against the engineering of the split in the NCP, his leadership and courage would have been appreciated.
The country is fighting against dictatorship and the INDIA alliance comprising 26 opposition parties has been formed for the purpose, it said.
Sharad Pawar is the “leading general” of the alliance, it claimed.
There are different expectations of people from a senior leader like Sharad Pawar, the Marathi publication said.
“PM Modi is not ready to speak on the violence in Manipur. It is not in national interest for the country’s leader to not speak on the issue,” the editorial said.
There are protests against the prime minister in Pune and NCP activists were taking part in it, it noted.
It was a weird situation because the party’s leaders were with Modi on the stage and party workers were protesting against him with black flags, the Saamana editorial added.

Maha Legislative Council Dy Chairperson joins Shinde’s Shiv Sena, leaves Uddhav camp
By ANI
MUMBAI (Maharashtra): In yet another setback to the Shiv Sena (UBT), party leader and Deputy Chairperson of Maharashtra Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC member joined the rival faction in the presence of state Chief Minister Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis.
Interestingly, in Maharashtra Legislative Council’s Business Advisory Committee today, the BJP MLC Pravin Darekar proposed to take back the no-confidence motion against Gorhe, brought during the previous session of the Council, for the post of Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council.
Darekar’s proposal was seconded by party MLC Prasad Lad.
Speaking at the official induction meeting here, Gorhe said, “Shiv Sena is heading in the right direction under the able leadership of Eknath Shinde.”
While speaking on the occasion, Shinde said it is a historic moment and it is a testament to how strong the BJP-Shiv Sena unity is.
“Everyone is seeing the work we do, and this is why our Sena is getting stronger and people keep joining. Neelam Gorhe will be able to work freely with all her heart for women. She is not defecting anywhere but is joining the original Sena,” he said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading the nation to be a superpower. “We believe we should have a role to play as a state,” he added.
Deputy CM Fadnavis said Sena-BJP follows the same thought process.
“I personally wanted to remain present for the induction and welcome her into the alliance. She has taken a rational decision,” he said.

Maha: 111 people arrested during protest against refinery; Sena (UBT) says stop ‘atrocities’
By PTI
MUMBAI: Police on Tuesday arrested 111 people, most of them women, during a protest against a proposed oil refinery at Barsu village in Maharashtra’s coastal Ratnagiri district, an official said.
More than 100 women were among the protesters who tried to block a road in Barsu and Solgaon areas of the district, around 400km from Mumbai, by lying on the ground to stop government vehicles from entering the proposed site of the refinery, he said.
The protesters were booked under IPC sections related to unlawful assembly, rioting, disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant, wrongful restraint and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, the official said, adding they will be produced before a court at Rajapur town in Ratnagiri district on Wednesday.
Local residents fear the mega project will adversely affect the fragile biodiversity of the coastal Konkan region and also hit their livelihood.
The Opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) came out in their support and demanded an immediate end to “atrocities” against protesters.
A government team was scheduled to conduct a survey at the site in Barsu and Solgaon areas of Rajapur, on Monday, but locals started staging protests, the official said.
During the protest, women lay on the ground to prevent vehicles of the district administration and police from entering the areas, he said.
Considering the law and order situation, hundreds of police personnel were deployed at the project site, the official said.
Ratnagiri Superintendent of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni and other senior police officials were at the spot to avoid any untoward incident, he said.
Opposition leader Ajit Pawar of the NCP earlier in the day demanded that protests by locals against the refinery project be handled sensitively and urged that the state government stop the survey work till a peaceful solution was found.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut demanded an immediate end to atrocities against locals and asserted his party will not sit quietly on the issue and back the people.
Talking to reporters, Raut alleged the protesters were being pressurised by Industries Minister Uday Samant with the help of police.
“This is a government with a perverse mentality. They want a Jallianwala Bagh-like massacre. We are with people and the Shiv Sena (UBT) will not sit quiet,” Raut said.
He said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde thinks he is a “messiah” of the poor, but has left on a three-day “leave” in a helicopter, a reference to the CM going to his hometown in Satara district.
Shinde should instead take the helicopter to Barsu and meet the protesters there, said the Rajya Sabha member.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former minister Aaditya Thackeray said, “The government should stop atrocities on people and also the soil survey.”
The former state environment minister said the government should start a dialogue with the agitating local residents.
The previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had put some conditions before giving a nod to the project which included taking the locals into confidence and explaining the details of the venture and its benefits, Thackeray said.
