  • Chhattisgarh: Nine Naxalites Arrested In Bijapur District |

    New Delhi: Nine Naxalites, one of them carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, were arrested from separate places in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, police said.

    Five of them were held from the forest near Pusbaka village under Basaguda police station limits during an anti-Maoist operation, an official said.

    Among them, Raju Oyam, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was a member of the Usur Local Organisation Squad of the outlawed Maoist outfit while Bhima Madvi was vice president of Gaganpalli RPC (Revolutionary Party Committee) Jantana Sarkar, he added.

    The other three were lower-rung cadres, the police official said.

    A cache of explosives, a `tiffin’ bomb, a battery, spikes, splinters, gelatin sticks, cordex and electric wires as well as anti- government Maoist pamphlets were recovered from their possession, he said.

    Three more lower-rung cadres were arrested from Usur and one person from Tarrem police station station limits, the official said.

    The Maoist held from Tarrem was involved in an incident of firing on a police team at a newly set up security camp, he said.

    BIJAPUR: Maoists abducted and killed the brother of a journalist on suspicion of being a police informer in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a senior officer said on Wednesday.

    The victim, Basant Jhadi, was abducted by Naxalites on Friday and killed on Monday after they held a ‘jan adalat’ (people’s court or kangaroo court) at village Kotapalli on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, said Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P.

    Jhadi, who was the brother of a local journalist, was killed on suspicion of being a police informer, he said.

    “As per information received so far, the victim’s relatives have performed his last rites, but they are yet to lodge a police complaint,” the IPS officer said.

    Maoists often hold ‘jan adalat’ where persons suspected to be loyal to the state are killed in full public view.

  • Surrendered Naxalite killed in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

    BIJAPUR: Naxalites allegedly murdered a former colleague, who had surrendered before the police three months ago, in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, a senior official said on Sunday.

    Baman Poyam, who was in his 40s, was found dead on a road near Pondum village under Bhairamgarh police station limits this morning, the official said.

    Poyam, who was a Maoist janmilitia member, had surrendered before the police in Bijapur on May 30 and had since been staying in the Police Lines area, he said.

    As per preliminary information, Poyam went missing a few days ago from Police Lines and the local police was trying to trace him, the official said.

    On being alerted about the death, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body, he said.

    “Poyam’s body bore injury marks made by sharp-edged weapons. Prima facie, it seems to be the handiwork of Naxalites, but an investigation is underway,” the official added.

  • Chhattisgarh: Pastor killed by Naxals on suspicion of being police informer in Bijapur

    BIJAPUR: A local pastor was allegedly attacked and killed by Naxals, who suspected him of being a police informer in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Saturday.

    The killing took place in Angampalligua village under Madded police station area on Thursday, while the victim’s body was recovered on Friday, an official said.

    “As per preliminary information, a group of suspected armed Naxals entered the house of local pastor Yallam Shankar, and dragged him out. They attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, killing him on the spot,” the official said.

    After being alerted about the incident, a police team was sent to the spot on Friday and the victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination, he said.

    A handwritten note was recovered from the spot, in which the Madded Area Committee of Maoists has claimed responsibility for the murder and accused the victim of being a police informer, the official said.

    Further investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the assailants, he said, adding that the murdered pastor had no association with the police.

  • Chhattisgarh: Naxals kill police informer; torch vehicles used for road construction in Bijapur

    BIJAPUR: Naxals allegedly killed a 45-year-old police informer and torched three vehicles engaged in road construction work in separate incidents in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said on Saturday.

    The ultras killed a gopniya sainik (secret police informer) on Friday and dumped his body on Gangloor road under the Bijapur police station limits, additional superintendent of police (ASP) Pankaj Shukla said.

    The police recovered the body of the man identified as Ando Ram, another official said, adding that further probe is underway.

    In a separate incident, Naxals torched three vehicles engaged in road construction work at Cherkanti Patelpara village under Bijapur police station limits on Friday, the official said.

    The ultras set fire to a truck, a JCB machine and another heavy vehicle, which were being used in the construction work under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), he added.

  • Top Maoist leader RK dies of chronic illness in Bijapur

    RAIPUR: Top Maoist leader Akkiraju Haragopal alias Rama Krishna (RK), who was a Central Committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), died of chronic illness at some unknown forest terrain close to Pamed in Bijapur district on Thursday, according to reliable sources.

    Hailing from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh and in-charge of Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) Special Zonal Committee, the 55-year-old leader was taking treatment for his chronic illness somewhere in south Bastar’s remote jungle of Pamed, 450 km south of Raipur. He was popularly known as Saket in AOB. 

    He was a member of the Maoist central team that negotiated peace talks with the government of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh in September, 2004. He was also overseeing the Maoist technical wing.    

    RK escaped police encounters a few times

    In 2016, he managed to escape from a fierce encounter with Greyhounds at Odisha’s Malkangiri, in which 28 Maoists were killed. Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna, more popularly known as RK, hails from Tumrakota in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. RK’s wife Padma alias Sirisha was a former Maoist while their son, Munna alias Sivaji was killed in an alleged encounter at Ramaguda in 2016.

    RK, who is Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist) now, is also heading the Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) Special Zonal Committee and is said to have escaped several encounters with the security forces in the forests of Andhra Pradesh as well as in neighbouring Maoist affected States of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. RK was reportedly present at the exchange of fire that took place between Maoists and the security forces at Ramaguda on October 24, 2016.

    Though there were reports that RK was killed in the Ramaguda encounter, it later emerged that he escaped hurt while his son, Munna alias Sivaji, was among the 24 Maoists killed in the exchange of fire with the security forces. RK reportedly escaped to Chhattisgarh after the encounter. RK had been suffering from various health ailments since long.

  • Naxals attack, kill villager in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh

    BIJAPUR: A 50-year-old man was allegedly attacked and killed by Naxals at a village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Friday.

    The incident took place in Nukanpal village under Modakpal police station limits, where the victim Mura Kudiam, had gone to attend a family function on Thursday, an official said.

    As per preliminary information, some armed ultras dressed as civilians surrounded Kudiam, a native of Usoor area, and attacked him multiple times with sharp-edged weapons and sticks in front of villagers, the official said.

    Naxals dumped Kudiam’s body on the road, before fleeing the scene, he said, adding that the exact cause for the attack is yet to be ascertained.

    A police team rushed to the site and the body was shifted to a local hospital for post-mortem, the official said.

    This is the second such attack in the district this week, as a 32-year-old villager was killed by Naxals in Kutru area of the district on July 11.

    In October last year, the outlawed CPI (Maoist) had claimed responsibility for killing 25 people, including some of its cadres, in separate incidents in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district for allegedly acting as police informers.

  • The first consignment of Corona vaccine reached Bijapur, vaccination will start from January 16

    The first consignment of Corona vaccine has arrived in the district. Vaccination work will start from 16 January. In the first phase, there will be corona warriors, health workers, security personnel and teachers posted in the vaccine Kovid duty. CMHO BR Pujari said that the vaccine will take 2220 people. The district is housed in the vaccine store. The vaccine will be sent to District Hospital, Community Building Bhairamgarh and PHC Maded.

As per the orders issued by the Home Department, Pankaj Kumar Shukla, a 2007 SPS officer, presently posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Koriya district has been posted as Additional SP in Bijapur district. Anil Soni, a 2007 batch SPS officer, presently posted as Additional SP Kabirdham has been posted as Additional SP Janjgir-Champa. Sanjay Kumar Mahadeva, a 2007 batch SPS officer, presently posted as Additional SP Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, has been posted as Additional SP, Mungeli. Madhulika Singh, also a 2007 batch SPS officer, presently posted as Additional SP Janjgir-Champa, has been posted as Additional SP, Koriya. S D Tirkey, a 2010 batch SPS officer, presently posted as Additional SP Mungeli has been posted as Additional SP PHQ, Raipur.
