Security forces in Chhattisgarh have achieved a significant success with the elimination of six Naxalites in an intense gunbattle in Bijapur district. The encounter took place in the Indravati National Park area on Tuesday morning when a joint team of police and special task force units were conducting an anti-Maoist operation. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of high-ranking Maoist leaders, the security personnel engaged with the insurgents. The exchange of fire persisted for several hours, resulting in the deaths of six Naxalites. Authorities recovered automatic weapons, including an INSAS rifle and sten guns, along with explosives from the encounter site. Additional forces, including the CRPF and Chhattisgarh Armed Force, were deployed to secure the area and pursue any fleeing cadres. The operation is reportedly still ongoing. The Chief Minister commended the security forces for their bravery and stated this operation marks another stride towards eradicating the Maoist insurgency from the state. This recent success brings the total number of Naxalites killed in Chhattisgarh this year to 259, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat left-wing extremism.
