Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an attack on Congress over Article 370 abrogation while addressing a public rally in Mumbai amid the Lok Sabha elections. Narendra Modi said, “It is impossible to instil hope in the people who are drowned in hopelessness. They are those people who thought it was impossible to abrogate Article 370. Today, in front of our own eyes, I have buried the wall of Article 370 in the graveyard. I want to tell the people who are dreaming of bringing back Article 370 that no power in the world can bring Article 370 back.”

PAGD Formed To Oppose Abrogation Of Article 370 In J&K Has Been Disbanded: Mehbooba Mufti |
SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday accused the National Conference (NC) of reducing the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to a “joke” after the Farooq Abdullah-led party unilaterally decided to contest all three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir. The PAGD alliance in Jammu and Kashmir has been disbanded, she said. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also announced that she will move forward independently. She attributed the demise of the PAGD to the National Conference.
Hours after National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah stated that there would be no alliance with the PDP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti shifted the decision-making responsibility to the Congress, which is part of the INDIA bloc. She mentioned that a decision would be made after consulting with the party.
During a press conference at the party headquarters in Srinagar, Mehbooba expressed her disappointment with the NC’s decision, stating that they had achieved what the BJP could not by damaging the PAGD ( People’s Alliance for Gupkar Deceleration). She also indicated that discussions with Congress were forthcoming, and a decision would be made soon. “I am a fighter. We will engage with Congress on this matter and announce our decision soon,” she stated.
Earlier, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah had remarked, “The situation has excluded the PDP, not the National Conference.” He questioned how they could abandon south Kashmir for the PDP, which placed third in the last LS polls. “They (PDP) speak of alliances but only target NC in their rallies and tweets,” Omar added.
No understanding of seat sharing in Lok Sabha elections has put two big political parties of Jammu and Kashmir face to face, which will benefit BJP in Jammu and Kashmir in forthcoming parliamentary elections.

4 yrs on, 370 case hearing from July 21
Express News Service
NEW DELHI: A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud will take up for hearing a batch of pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 on July 21, four years after the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was stripped of its special status and bifurcated into two Union Territories.
According to a notice issued on the apex court website on Monday, the five-judge bench, also comprising justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai and Surya Kant, will take up the pleas for passing directions.
The pleas were last listed on March 2, 2020 when the Constitution bench had held that there was no need to refer the matter to a larger bench. However, the matter was not listed again up until now. Many petitions were filed before the Supreme Court praying that the Presidential Orders issued under Article 370, repealing the special status of the Jammu and Kashmir, and the J&K (Reorganisation) Act, 2019 be declared as unconstitutional. One of the pleas averred that it was “striking at the heart of the principles on which the State of J&K had integrated”.
The hearing had commenced on December 10, 2019 — four months after the repeal of the J&K special status — before a Constitution Bench comprising Justices N V Ramana (now retired), S K Kaul, R Subhash Reddy (now retired), B R Gavai and Surya Kant. Some petitioners wanted the matter referred to a seven-judge bench, but the apex court disagreed.

Basic rights in India have become ‘luxuries’ & ‘entitlements’: Mehbooba writes to CJI
By PTI
SRINAGAR: Basic rights in the country have now become “luxuries” and “entitlements” bestowed upon only those who toe the government’s line on political, social and religious matters, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday.
In a letter to Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, she also alleged that the trust deficit and growing alienation have only widened in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
“I write to you with a deep sense of concern and worry about the prevailing situation in the country, especially J-K. Your recent observations on the inability of lower judiciary to grant bail in ordinary cases in a functioning democracy as ours should have been adopted as a directive rather than just being consigned to a single column story churned out in newspapers,” Mufti said in the letter posted on her Twitter handle.

— Mehbooba Mufti (@MehboobaMufti) December 31, 2022
Speaking at the inauguration of the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy on Friday, CJI Chandrachud had said that over 63 lakh cases across the country have been considered to be delayed due to the non-availability of counsel and over 14 lakh cases are delayed as they await some kind of document or record.
He had said that people must get rid of the colonial mindset of referring to and treating district courts as the subordinate judiciary in hierarchy and in practice.
Mufti, the PDP president, said the fundamental rights enshrined in the Indian constitution and guaranteed to all Indian citizens “are being brazenly impinged upon.”
“Unfortunately, it is these basic rights that have now become luxuries and entitlements bestowed upon only those select citizens who toe the Government’s line on political, social and religious matters.”
“And more worryingly, to those who actively contribute and not obstruct GOI’s idea of an India where its strengths of diversity, religious pluralism and tolerance must be weeded out and crushed to lay the foundations of a one religion nation where minorities are relegated to the social, political and economic fringes,” she said.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader further alleged that since 2019, the fundamental rights of every resident of Jammu and Kashmir have been suspended arbitrarily and the constitutional guarantees given at the time of its accession were suddenly and unconstitutionally abrogated.
She said hundreds of youngsters are languishing in jails outside the Union territory as undertrials and their condition is exacerbated since they belong to poor families who lack the wherewithal to get legal aid.
“All this is happening at a time when the trust deficit and growing alienation has only widened since 2019. Passports being a fundamental right are impounded with full impunity. Journalists are being jailed and even prevented from flying out of country,” she said.
While Mufti said the only ember of hope in these “bleak circumstances” is the judiciary which only can right these “wrongs,” she added, “however, it saddens me to say that so far our experience with the judiciary has not inspired much confidence.”
She said it took the Supreme Court well over a year to order her release after she was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2019.
She, however, expressed hope that with the CJI’s intervention, justice is delivered and the people of J-K see their expectations of dignity, human rights, constitutional guarantees and a democratic polity realised which had inspired their forefathers to join Mahatama Gandhi’s India.
