Cricket icon Rohit Sharma, known for his explosive batting and leadership, has taken another step in promoting the sport at the grassroots level by launching his second cricket academy in Mohali, Punjab. Building on the popularity of his 2017 venture in Batala, Amritsar, this new center aims to elevate training standards for young athletes across the state.
In an interview, Vinay Sharma, Rohit’s brother and a key figure in the project, emphasized the focus on professional development. ‘Back in our time, proper coaching wasn’t readily available,’ Vinay reflected. ‘Parents often struggled to find reliable training spots for their kids. Our academies fill that void with world-class infrastructure.’
The academy’s inception was no small feat. Rohit reportedly mandated specific requirements, including a well-maintained grass field covering at least 60% of the area and high-quality practice wickets. ‘He said, if you meet these benchmarks, I’ll associate my name with it,’ Vinay shared, crediting these standards for the first academy’s success over eight years.
Meanwhile, Rohit’s IPL form has hit a snag with a hamstring injury forcing him out of recent Mumbai Indians matches, including the one against Punjab Kings. Hardik Pandya noted that the opener needs more time to recover fully.
With Mohali’s strategic location near major cricket venues, the academy is expected to attract talent from Punjab and beyond. It represents Rohit’s enduring legacy beyond the field, fostering discipline, skill, and passion in the next wave of cricketers.
