Punjab’s fight against drugs intensified with a daring raid in Amritsar, where counter-intelligence operatives shattered a sophisticated narco-terror network tied to Pakistan. Two smugglers were arrested with a massive 64.62kg heroin stash, marking a blow to cross-border syndicates.
Acting on a tip-off, the SSOC Amritsar unit laid a trap near Mahal Bypass. They stopped a suspicious Maruti Swift, seizing the contraband and detaining the occupants: Sarwan Singh (Gurjar) of Awant Vasau and Shamsher Singh (Shera) of Dayal Rangar.
DGP Gaurav Yadav disclosed preliminary findings linking the racket to Pakistani traffickers and a Portugal-based handler. The network traces back to Musa, the kingpin behind the landmark 2019 Attari heroin bust of over 500kg. ‘We’re tracing every link forward and backward,’ Yadav affirmed, vowing a full network takedown.
The heroin arrived via drone from Pakistan, collected days earlier by the duo who were heading to distribute it under handler instructions. AIG Sukhmindar Singh Mann highlighted the profit incentives driving such operations. Legal action commenced with an FIR under stringent NDPS and aviation laws.
Under CM Bhagwant Mann’s zero-tolerance policy, this operation exemplifies coordinated intelligence and swift action. It disrupts terror financing through drugs and bolsters border security, with expectations of further breakthroughs as the investigation expands.
