In a powerful display of unity, farmers pedaled alongside fitness enthusiasts in New Delhi for the 72nd ‘Sunday on Cycle’ event, part of the nationwide Fit India Movement. Organized every Sunday, the initiative rotates focus groups to instill fitness consciousness in every societal segment.
Sushant Kandwal, Director of Fit India, rode at the forefront and spoke to reporters post-event. ‘This is our 72nd edition, and we’re proud to include farmers this time,’ he stated. ‘They’ve turned up in huge numbers, voluntarily embracing the cycle over rest on their holiday. It’s a huge achievement.’
He credited the program’s scale to public enthusiasm, directly advancing PM Modi’s clarion call: ‘Fitness ka dose aadha ghanta roz’ – half an hour of fitness every day. Kandwal emphasized how the movement is capably spreading this message nationwide.
Participating farmer Kisn Kumar shared, ‘We use cycles daily in farms and villages. This is an excellent step by the government to promote health and combat lifestyle diseases.’
Beyond fitness, the event underscores cycling’s environmental benefits, tackling obesity epidemics and pollution. With each spin of the wheels, ‘Sunday on Cycle’ builds a fitter populace and a sustainable future, proving community-driven efforts can transform public health.
