The Bihar Legislative Assembly gears up for a high-stakes special session on Friday, where the freshly minted NDA government under Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary aims to clinch a confidence vote. This comes hot on the heels of political reshuffles triggered by Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha move.

An official circular from Principal Secretary Poonam Sinha confirmed the session details. Speaker Prem Kumar led pre-session all-party talks, extracting commitments for orderly proceedings from party leaders.

The meeting drew heavyweights like Dy CMs Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, alongside figures such as Vijay Kumar Sinha, Vinod Narayan Jha, and a host of MLAs. Dy CM and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary outlined that the agenda centers on debating and voting the trust motion.

Government cooperation is assured for seamless operations, noted Choudhary. This session is the second in the assembly’s 18th term, with notifications dispatched to all 243 MLAs.

Choudhary took charge on April 15 amid the power shift. Per constitutional norms, he must demonstrate majority in the house. Bolstered by the NDA’s 202-seat haul from the 2025 polls, expectations run high for a straightforward win.

Departments stand assigned: CM holds sway over 29 key areas from home to vigilance. Vijay Kumar Choudhary got water resources among others; Bijendra Yadav covers energy and development portfolios. Further cabinet berths are on the horizon.

Political observers see this as a mere formality, cementing NDA’s dominance in Bihar’s corridors of power.
