As Delhi battles record-breaking heat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has rolled out comprehensive safeguards, headlined by a compulsory three-hour respite for laborers between 1 PM and 4 PM. This directive applies universally, covering both public and private sector employees exposed to brutal midday sun.
In a widely shared X video, the CM highlighted the plight of construction workers and daily laborers. ‘No one should risk their health in this punishing heat,’ she asserted, urging strict compliance from employers.
Public transport sees upgrades too: DTC buses are fitted with water dispensers, and bus stops host hydration points with ORS. Healthcare infrastructure is on high alert—hospitals have cooling areas, essential drugs, and trained staff. Schools prioritize student hydration, and community volunteers hand out protective gear like hats and mufflers.
Preceding this, orders went out to DTC for deploying water aides at 23 terminals. Health preparations include outfitting 339+ centers with supplies, establishing cool rooms in 30+ facilities, training 174 personnel, and mobilizing 330 ambulances.
This multi-pronged strategy not only addresses immediate dangers but sets a precedent for climate-adaptive policies in urban India.
